Pixel 5 & $699 price

I've bought every Pixel. Always felt the prices were to high. I was excited when the rumor of a 6.7 inch or whatever Pixel. But that of course turned out to be false. Mid range internals and I'm sorry, but a tiny screen for 2020 for $699. That's going to be a tough sell for Google, once again it seems.

See now, I agree with you. But I am like Galaxy s8 couple of years ago, and then I want to talk. To my Pixel 3 XL, I negotiated with the Verizon Wireless for a good deal on the 3XL. There was no way I was going to pay MSRP for my Pixel 3XL. I didn't have to I got it for a couple hundred dollars of a discount. Thankfully. I agree completely with you. I've always bought Nexus/Pixel phones other than that phone. And this goes with smartphones in general however... I understand why a lot of them are high price with 5G modems inside and high amounts of RAM and processing power. I mean sure, some people one / need that. But that also drives the price sky high. I don't believe in paying $1,500 for a phone! I mean $700 for a pixel 5, sends about right to me even a little bit better with a future discount. Lol.

Nope. Pass. The phone belongs in 2018/early 2019. What company sits down and thinks its a good idea to literally take and neuter last year's version. Worse processor, same 2 year old camera, worse PPI, no ip68 rating. Complete and utter garbage. Screw Google for this disaster. Give me a real damn flagship with stock Android. snapdragon 865+, 6.9" display, 120Hz, etc.

IDC what their moronic surveys suggests. Look at how the S20 and Note20 lines are selling. There's obviously demand for that. Maybe reach out to Apple and learn how to ******* market correctly.

Releasing these garbage phones just neuters the entire Android brand. What casuals will see with Android is that the creator of the platform is making cheap garbage phones thus the OS must be cheap garbage.

I feel you. But for the price, and for someone who doesn't game on their phone, I think google checked all the right boxes with the Pixel 5. The back of the phone is ugly but considering that most people use cases, I don't think that will matter. The front of the phone is attractive with a decent screen to body ratio. I left google phones after the Nexus 6p and stuck with the Galaxy and have had every Galaxy phone from the S7 to S20. The Pixel 5 might be enough to pull me back to google. No in-screen fingerprint reader, and it's 90hz instead of 120hz, but this is the tradeoff for stock Android, and at least it's $300 cheaper than what new Galaxy phones go for.

Pixel 1 - Huge, asymmetric bezels. Low quality OLED screen.
Pixel 2 - Even larger, bezels. Are you kidding me Google?!
Pixel 3 - Slow, not enough RAM.
Pixel 4 - Tiny battery for a 90hz screen. Large-ish asymmetric bezels. Could use more RAM. No fingerprint reader.
Pixel 5 - ???

In screen finger print is the norm now as is face unlock. No face unlock on Pixel 5 is also a dissapointment IMO. Give us options.

It's not a tough sell because only certain people buy Pixel phones. They're not really in competition with anyone, are they?

I think it's going to be one of their best selling phones yet... except for the 4a5G. They've finally realized what pixel people want, an affordable phone running pure android with the best updates in the business, a fast clean os that gives consistent performance, the first to get all the cutting edge Google software advances, and it comes 5G ready with all the features people want... wireless charging, 90hz screen, ultrawide camera, plenty of ram, plenty of storage, big battery and more. It won't be for flagship lovers who want to spend 1500 bucks on a phone with bleeding edge tech.... but those are a tiny minority. Google's going to sell a lot of phones this year, just like the 3a and 4a were Amazon's best sellers, the 4a5G will be as well, and I'm sure the 5 won't be far behind.

If you want the best gaming phone around pay twice the price for a dedicated gamer. If you want pure Android and rock solid cutting edge updates, on a solid phone that will do everything you need, and do it well for a great price pick up a pixel 5...or 4a5G ;-)

Google probably won't sell many phones this year, and they don't even expect to.

With the pandemic and financial problems for everybody everywhere I doubt anybody's going to be selling a lot of anything anywhere.... except guns/ammo and toilet paper lol. But for the current world conditions I think they'll do better than they would have making an even more expensive pixel 5 based off of the 4. The pixel "a" line has been their money maker ever since it was introduced..... that's why the 5 is just a 4a5G on steroids. As the economy (hopefully) comes back around I think their strategy will turn the pixels into more mainstream phones. Flagships are technology showcases that sell in small amounts to the hardcore techies. Budget and midrange phones are what makes the companies money.

Google's draw is their software, best in class updates and cutting edge software features coming first to pixels. They were never really about cutting edge hardware, which is where I think they went wrong. When you make the software everybody else uses, let them squabble over hardware wars, you can do what you do better than anyone... software. I've never bought pixel phones for the hardware...if I was a hardware hound I'd be buying Samsungs ;-)

Google tried to get into the flagship game but failed. The pixel 3a (Mid range device) is what saved their bacon.

We need more people like you, to waste your money on bigger, better, so that the intelligent amongst us can benefit from refined technology without wasting our money. Bet you think Ferraris are great, ever owned one? lol

Not a bad price at all. And I'm sure the processor will be able to keep up too! All in all, I'm very excited for this phone and *may* think about upgrading to it in the future.

Not sure if mentioned already, but Best Buy has the Pixel 5 for $649 for the unlocked version. $50 off.
Its been that price since launch I believe at BB.

Is the 5 on display in Best Buy stores yet? I want to compare the 4a 5G to the 5. I'm concerned about the 5 being too small.
