Just got my pixel 5 and setting it up. Right away i noticed that the status bar on top is quite big compared to my 4 XL. Is this normal? Anyway to make this smaller or hide it?

It defeats the purpose of having full screen display without any notch when you lose that much space to the status bar

How about with another phone?

Nope. No options to modify this

Look at how much space it's taking up. It's better to have the notch instead. This looks pretty bad as all apps lost that screen real estate.

I agree, that's a big ole' status bar. It looks like it might be done to give symmetrical spacing above and below the punch hole camera. Plus the font is smaller, which makes the status bar look even bigger yet.

Try to adjust in Developer Options. There is a Display Cutout option on my Pixel 3 that allows adjusting the notification bar and the size of cutouts and punch holes.

Can turn dark mode on to blend in

Tried all those options. Nothing seem to work properly. Some of them put the time on top of camera hole etc. Only default works properly. But the status bar is so big. I hope Google fixes this.

It's better if they let you decide if you want to see the top of area.. Embrace the hole punch Google...

Nice to go edge to edge...

If were going to have the status bar that takes up the whole top isn't better to have the notch? Browsing and other Apps looks better on my 4 XL than 5 even though both phones display the same amount of content on screen

Well, the status bar on the pixel 5 is lined up with the camera , on pixel 4xl it's below the camera

Try this: turn auto-rate off and than rotate your phone. A rotation icon would appear in left bottom of the screen. Rotate ur screen with that. and lock the screen. Than rotate ur phone vertically and unlock the screen by finger print.... It might help. It makes it smaller. Tell me if that worked..
