Pixel 8 Durability

If you actually read those two comments you may be able to see that what I said was sitting down with phones in your pocket not sitting on your phone. Those are two very different statements
How. You're sitting on your phone. Whether it's in your pocket or on the seat, you are still not aware of where your phone is. Please don't argue semantics.

If the price of a big bank balance is going through life as an idiot …… I’ll pass.
It's better to be an idiot with a million dollars than an idiot with a can of beans.

It's not really very nice to assume that someone as an idiot because you don't like the way that they make their money though...

I've been watching Jerry for years and he's a good dude and entertaining...sponsors pay for his breakdowns and tears ...my Pixel Fold is a solid device despite the obvious bends and vids ..my phone 15PM glass back failed his test on bend was the only phone to crack from the new release this year ..this Pixel will be solid for my daily usage as well ...

I probably don’t fit very well into the category of nice.

Evaluating a cellphone by destructive testing, does not strike me as smart, but that’s just my opinion.

It‘s a thing that one usually carries in one’s pocket, not dragged along behind at the end of a string.

His videos do serve a very specific purpose though, which is to hold manufacturers accountable for their advertising and marketing claims. There's this other channel, Rose Anvil, and he does the same thing with sneakers and boots. It lets the consumer know if the price is justified or hype, and I think that having more information at the cost of a singular product has great merit. Are our dollars going to materials, manufacturing, r&d, or directly into CEO pockets? With channels like Jerry and Rose Anvil, we know a little better.

Look at all the different ways these companies are labeling their glass. Victus 1, Victus 2, Gorilla Glass #x. Every year it's a new and improved glass...but they all scrape the same. So is touting a new glass really that much of a selling point? Not any more, but I doubt few people have the basketballs to scrape up their own units just to see if the manufacturer claims are accurate.

Exactly how is scraping a phone apart with a utility knife "holding a company accountable?" I have never seen a phone manufacturer ever say that the sides of their device is impervious to being scraped with a utility knife. I have never seen a company say their screens are fireproof. I have never seen bendproof claims. I have never seen a company say their side buttons cannot be dug out with a utility knife.

The video was worthless, unless you are using the entertainment factor.

You're absolutely correct, he does go to the extreme and no one says their phones are flame or xacto knife-proof.

It could be the extreme version of a common a situation though, like keys and phone in the same pocket (I can't imagine how you'd simulate or record that situation realistically). Or maybe dropping your phone on/near the stove while you're cooking?

I'm not a Jerry apologist, as it hurts my wallet when he does his thing, but while doing the things we all know are extreme, he also does answer questions about disability or construction. For example, we've all had buttons and wondered how durable they are, or they are easy to pop off or damage. He also exposes potential problems, like how apple mag safe is way better than googles, in addition to why (placement).

It may be something most of us never questioned, but when a company advertises a specific material (genuine leather, titanium), channels like his hold those manufacturers accountable and make sure that material is actually present. Not only that, but is it available in an amount that is proper, or is it negligible and just to be able to say it's in there?

There's also the teardowns which are more interesting and informative than the durability tests. But, we all know far more people want to see the scratching, bending and smashing than the carefully taking apart and putting back together videos. He gives people what they want and makes a hell of a good living doing it.

I watch Rose Anvil occasionally as well, but I still own a pair of Doc Martens...I like the style, but I will also **** talk them with no holding back because they should be making better footwear. I agree that it is valuable to let consumers know what they are actually paying for...which is usually marketing.

Yeah, the Doc Martens one was tough to watch since I like the brand and style...but knowing how low-quality they were was eye-opening.

His foray into basketball sneakers was awesome because of all the footwear styles, they have the most tech and innovation, and it's good to know how much of that was marketing lingo and how much is actually in the shoe.

A couple of examples would be when he's tested the scratch resistance of alleged saphire crystal screens and discovered that they are actually basically just glass. Or showing that Samsung's "25% stronger Armor[sic] Aluminun[sic]" is actually just the same old aluminium with the same old properties. Or very recently when he showed how the new more repairable iPhone 15 is actually about as repairable as the 14, which is to say not really repairable at all.

And honestly him showing exactly the abuse a fold 5 or flip 5 can take is way more valuable than Samsung crossing it's heart and hoping to die that it will handle 200,000 folds... now THAT is meaningless.

He's pretty extreme now. He started out as a soft-spoken dude who tore up tech we were still babying...but recently, he's been doing some youtube-obnoxious stuff, like 3-d printing a statue of himself for the front of his house.

I like what Flossy was saying about phone durability, in that if you're not an idiot, and use it in the way it's supposed to be used, you won't run into any issues. No one bends their phone on purpose, nor should being able to withstand intentional bending be a standard. Just use your phone like a normal adult and you'll be fine. Slap a case on it and you'll be finer.
I slapped a case on my P6P a week after I got it. It's been dropped multiple times on the street, and when I pulled the case off a few minutes ago, it looked brand new.
