The Pixel 8 phone is the first phone that does not give me a full screen app. That means I have no way to hang up except to wait for the caller who called me to hang up, which gives me the beep. Is there a better phone app?

Welcome to Android Central! If you're in a call, it's always possible to go back to the homescreen or switch to another app (which of course is necessary if you want to multitask). If you do this, the active call should be visible as a bar in the status bar at the top. If you tap that, it should open the Phone app's full screen interface again.
