Pixel fares better than the Pixel XL on heavier days!

I am happy with anything over 4 hours of SoT on a consistent basis, sounds like both phones should do this easily.

Sounds like either version will get better battery life than any of my previous Android phones, I'm sold!

I was perusing the Android Central review and was really shocked to hear this!

I realize the XL has a larger screen and QHD but even then I was expecting the opposite or at worse for them to be equal due to the significant battery bump.

This article is correct. I've got an S7 EDGE on Verizon and I have no trouble going the whole day plus. On the other hand, I also have a 5x and that'll go the whole day too with both phones getting jyst about the same use.

Not necessarily. It is totally possible that the battery increase isn't large enough to compensate for the increased energy requirement of running at twice the framerate.

The amount of pixels the phone is driving is not that much of a factor. The screen being larger is way more power draining than a higher resolution. I'm not sure how the framerate factors in, they should be the same framerate.

But the battery size is well past the point of compensation here. This is on par with other models offering a larger phone with larger battery (Galaxy S7/Edge).

The battery size difference is substantial, but a 5" 1080p display is going to need a lot less power than a 5.5" QHD display. By heavier days I assume he means gaming and other graphic heavy apps, so for me it wouldn't make a difference because I really don't play games on my phone.

I have a very hard time believing this. 1440p is not that much more intensive compared to 1080p in terms of CPU usage and battery drain. The massively bigger battery and identical hardware means they should, at the worst, be equal. But I would expect xl to live longer.

But then this was said in the same review,

"Daniel Bader has been using the smaller Pixel for the past week, and has found its performance generally good, though more susceptible to battery drain from heavy usage."

"As long as you're willing to top up the phone once or twice a day, even for a few minutes, the smaller Pixel's battery life should be fine, but if you're a truly avid user — and who among us isn't? — then the Pixel XL, or a diminutive battery pack close at hand, is probably a better option."

Yeah, this was totally confusing. Almost made me think one of those was a typo.

I guess end of the day, no matter it is the Pixel Phone or the XL, it all depend on the user, what type of apps you used and download will impact the battery life of the phone.

Hard to believe... But that's good to know and it also depends on user to user I think

It's nearly double the pixels.

So I've had the smaller Pixel since the 5th, so longer than the review units BUT theirs run retail software and mine does not. Small Pixel gets battery life very near to the 6P, little bit better. My problem is not having an XL to compare it to.

Vs the 6p it handles poor cellular signal strength much better.

This right here is what I wanted to hear. I pre-ordered the smaller pixel because although I love the 6p, I'm ready to go back to something a little more manageable in the day to day and my top worry was exactly how much different the battery life was going to be. If you are seeing similar battery life to the 6p with the smaller pixel then Im sure with my apps and usage I'll likely see something similar. Thanks for sharing.

I'm telling you, the resolution difference is pretty marginal when it comes to power consumption. The physical size difference is the largest factor here, and it's not big enough to compensate for the much larger battery.

In both cases you're likely to get a decent, full day of use out of the Pixel and Pixel XL, though the XL fares a little better on heavier days.

It was a typo, check the review again, it's been corrected.

That's nonsense, the power draw of screens is of no consequence compared to 700maH. Besides screen size is more of an issue than resolution.

That review is full of it.
