Pixel Launcher Odd Behavior - Weather/Date Widget

Google sent me a Pixel XL to replace a defective Nexus 6P. I really like the PXL, but the Pixel launcher is behaving strangely. I turned off the "My Feed" feature on the launcher because I cannot disable the "Stories to Read" portion of the feed. I have no problem with the current date pinned to the upper right corner of the home screen. The "issue" is that the local temperature is displayed at times and not the date. This occurs randomly. Is there a way to control this? I can live with either display, but I am curious on why this is happening. TIA

Curious if there is a location through the my feed? The weather could be connected to that setting.

There's a setting in the Google app: Google > Settings > Your Feed > Current Weather Condition > On the lock screen

I have "On the lock screen" toggled on because I want the weather to display on the lock screen. I found this setting today because the weather disappeared from my home screen this morning. Found this setting and got the weather display back.
