Android Central Question

Had Pixel XL's 1-3. Don't see any reason to get the 4. I'm all-Pixel all the time because of clean Android and fast updates.

Short of rooting, how close to "stock android" can I get with a custom launcher on say a Galaxy? Any other tricks that would help close the gap?

Otherwise, I'm stuck with my 3XL until next October. Not a bad problem to have I suppose......

as close to stock as you can get on any other non-pixel phone you can download the pixel launcher. If you have a pixel stick with a 3XL. I have one, and I still absolutely love everything about it. You can't beat stock Android, quick s/w updates, and great useful functional features.

Thought my PW manager had auto-logged me in. Surprising it let me post without having done so. I've been registered since, oh, I dunno, the Nexus 6 or so.:D

You can't get the Visual Core chip on any other phone, so unless you're not interested in taking pictures, you can't get Pixel operation on a Galaxy.

You also can't get Google-type customer service from Samsung. (Google's idea seems to be "It doesn't work? We;ll replace it." Samsung's idea seems to be "It doesn't work? Bring it to a repair shop and pay for the repair. Your problem isn't covered by the warranty." I've dealt with both of them - and I've run customer service departments. Samsung is the reason I stopped buying Samsungs. Google? I'm jealous of their operation. Mine were never that good. [The reps could be faking it, but if they are, they deserve Oscars.])

So I'm stuck - with a Pixel 2. There was nothing in the 3 that was different. (I run the Pixel 4 camera app on the 2.) The 4 lost the fingerprint sensor, which is why I bought another phone when I bought the 2. It's working well enough that I'm perfectly willing to wait for the 5 or 6 to see if there's anything interesting. (I do miss the SD card, but I can always use one with an OTG adapter, so that's no reason for me to go back to Samsung.)
