Thinking about upgrading from my S7. I am leaning towards a Pixel 3 variant but am open to other suggestions. I would be buying used, unless there is a phenomenal deal on a new or refurbished device. I would like some suggestions on the Pixel 3 variant pros and cons. At this point just looking for something nicer than the S7 that is dying ever so quickly these days. I also had considered a battery replacement on the S7 but a new device seems to be in order

I have been looking at the 3a XL I have not had a chance to take a look at the exact differences of the pixel 3s which I need to take some time to see the pros and cons of each

Main thing be no wireless charging, water resistant and the better chip , but when I had the pixel 3a didn't notice any performance issues.

I do like the wireless charging only because my Jeep has a wireless charger built in. I have never been sold on the water resistance, I have an irrational fear of ruining my device even if its water resistant like my s7, I have never even tried to get it wet. I did notice some do not have the headphone jack either

Yeah the pixel 3a has a headphone jack not the 3
You'll have to weigh in the options that work best for you .

The 3 XL can be found for a pretty good price these days -- it's $430 on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Google-Pixel...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU6790401.

For me, a major benefit of the 3 XL over the 3a XL is the unlimited Original Quality photo backups to Google Photos until Jan 2021. The 3a XL only gives you unlimited High Quality backups (just like any other phone). So if you're a big photo taker, keep that in mind.

I was trying to weigh out the battery life. I found the s9+ in my price range but seeing as its still older than the pixel3s there is a good chance the battery has less life than the pixel. Also the replacement process seems easier on the pixel with the plastic backing vs the glass which is easy to break. I think I may end up with a 3a XL I can't seem to find any cons so to say with going that route. Also a big fan of having the latest version of android which is a huge pro on the google phones

All good points. I think the reason why the 3a line has better battery life is primarily due to the lower power consumption by the SoC, but by all accounts, the phone's overall performance is hardly distinguishable from the flagship 3. I also agree with the plastic vs glass argument -- I've always found glass backs to be silly and unnecessary.

Having the Pixel 3a, with my usage the battery life is okay but not phenomenal. I'm coming from a KEY2 with a 4.5 inch 1080 LCD screen which sips battery compared to this OLED in the 3a.

However the battery life of the 3a is considered by most to be substantially better than the 3 and 4 (I'm only talking about small non-XL models)

I was just watching a video on the battery life. I'm pretty much sold on the 3a XL just gotta find the right deal. Some good ones on swappa so I'm gonna go that route

I was just reading an article that even tho the XL version does have a larger battery the 3a lasted a bit longer. Is this accurate?

I don't know if a 3a would outlast a 3 XL, that is a good question.

The 3 XL does have a head start of about 400mAh or so, but also with a 0.7" increase in display size and a supposedly less efficient processor.

It was an article on tomsguide that said the 3a outlasted the 3axl by 15 mins
https://www.tomsguide.com/us/pixel-3a-vs-pixel-3a-xl,news-30029.html
I wouldn't trust it.

There is no way a 3a could outlast a 3a XL if we're comparing with the same usage patterns etc...

Because the 700mAh difference in battery size makes for a 23% increase in size.

While the 0.4" difference in display size translates to just 7% increase.

So that means that the 3a XL is effectively ~15% better than the 3a in battery life.

Yeah there was no logical explanation for it but I figured I would come ask the community. Well I missed out on a good deal $215 so I just gotta wait it out and wait for another to pop up

I have a pixel 3 as my daily driver. I would and have recommended this phone to anyone looking for a small form factor smartphone. It's great for my use... I plan to hold on to this form factor as long as I can because phones are just too big these days for me.
