Pixel - Signal dropping (Update: Google Knows)

Re: Verizon Pixel XL - Dropping calls?

I have mucho better WiFi reception on my Pixel than I did on my Moto X. I think as far as Verizon goes, the problem is where they are converting their system over to Advanced LTE. Maybe the areas people are having the issues are in the process of converting, and the people without issues have been already converted. That would explain why I had all the problems until a week ago when they just stopped. Nothing changed on my phone.

Advanced LTE? I can't even get the regular LTE! Don't even wanna think about what advanced might be like

I found where it tells you signal strength, on Verizon under about phone settings. Says mine ranges from -110 to -100. Haven't seen anything better than -100. The tech people at Verizon I have talked to said that isn't normal and told me the usual crap, restart, reset, new sim. One admitted they didn't really know what to suggest because they don't really know what the problem is. Call google, that one said. Of course originally, google told me to call Verizon.

When I'm indoors, I've seen mine show signal from around -88 to -120. Even at -120, LTE is stable, no issues. I've looked while outside a few times and the strongest signal I've seen was -78, I think. Must have been pretty close to a tower.

Well at -110 mine doesn't connect or doesn't connect enough to support opening web pages.

Re: Verizon Pixel XL - Dropping calls?

Yeah signal strength has been reducing since spring of this year. They are moving rural antennas into the cities for Advanced LTE. In a nutshell, Verizon is ruining their rural signal for faster speeds in the cities. You can see empty antenna hangers on their rural towers now. Especially around here. That is why I had to upgrade to the Pixel a year early. Verizon ruined my signal at home, taking away antennas, I had to have WiFi calling to make calls at home. The Moto X PRE didn't have WiFi calling. So I bought the Pixel mainly for that reason.

I think this still may have something to do with band 4 which Verizon uses. Another forum which I have been following in terms of poor 4G lite connectivity has many people in Puerto Rico stating that even after the update they are still experiencing little to no LTE signal. Still hoping that another software update maybe in Jan or whenever might actually address the issue properly.

It's spotty so I am sure it is causing frustration for a lot of people, as some great great connectivity and some get little to none.

It would be odd band 4 was the main culprit since T-Mobile uses band as well for a major band.

People in Puerto Rico don't get "little to no LTE signal", they get NO LTE PERIOD. There's a big difference.

This is the list of countries that had band 4 along with some other bands enabled in the December update:
Dominican: 370
Argentina: 722
Paraguay: 744
Venezuela: 734
Bolivia: 736
Uruguay: 748
Ecuador: 740
Nicaragua: 710
Honduras: 708
Guatemala: 704
Belize: 702
Jamaica: 338
Bahamas: 364

Maybe they'll also enable it for Puerto Rico next month, but what difference does it make to you if you don't live there?

Bay Area, between Oakland and SF here. Not rural. I still think it's the phone not the company since I am the only one in my family with the Pixel and the problem.

Wow, no need for the personal attack or sarcasm. Things I read online are not things coming directly from me. Feel like I am being singled out here. Take it easy

Sorry if I offended you. It wasn't sarcasm, it was a honest question. I also read that forum and nobody from Puerto Rico said they get "little to no signal", they said no LTE at all on Claro. It means that Puerto Rico was the last or one of the last countries that Google forgot to enable appropriate LTE bands for, while they already did it for other countries in the December update. That's why I just can't figure out what it has to do with your issue if you are not on Claro in Puerto Rico.

Again, I'm sorry that you're having issues and even feel singled out. I'm just having a hard time following your logic sometimes.

Thanks James . Lesson learned for me is not to post findings on things I've read on other forums or from what other people state. Will be much safer that way

I think the forum you are talking about is
https://productforums.google.com/forum/m/#!topic/phone-by-google/OxkJ1Sn6i5c If somebody from Puerto Rico mentioned "little to no signal" or something similar and I missed it, I apologize. I just reread it and still can't find anything close.

It's good to post findings from other forums, but I think in this case what you said is not what anybody on that forum said.

And even then, it's not affecting all of us on VZW. I'm thinking there's some set of conditions that causes the issue to show up and some VZW towers are affected while others aren't or something like that (so those of us who aren't having issues likely haven't been to an area where those conditions exist). At that point, the issue could be a software patch to work around the issue or it could be a network-level fix.
Network level fix could take beyond phone lifetime. Software issue would have been solved by now. Google famous for rapid updates to Nexus/Pixel. If this were a simple fix it would be fixed by now imo

Puerto Rico is USA.

I can still confirm that signal on my Pixel has been excellent for me on Verizon network. (NYC/LI metro area)

But there IS a problem but every suggestion of what the problem is is dismissed.
There is a problem but if it was truly just band 4 then everyone would see it. It may be band 4 issue on a specific carrier but not just band 4 in general. I use T-Mobile and band 4 is what I'm on a lot since it is one of their main bands.
