Um, stupid question...how does one set up Pixel speed dial entries? I'm searching and the dialer is awful. There's no way they dumped speed dials, is there?

You have to favorite the contacts you want and all the way to the left there is a star icon in the phone app that shows them.

The dialer is a pain. Huge tiles and a tiny dialpad icon sitting on the tiles. Hello, I have called everyone by mistake more than once while trying to access the dialpad. There seems to be a lack of dialers in the playstore, that seem any good. Is there any way to make the default view not be those enormous tiles?

That makes no sense. I saw the favorites dialer and was a little perplexed how they opted to include people in the favorites list I've never spoken to on the phone. Arbitrary much?
The other kick is the way they use the home screen as the speed dial widget launcher.
Great, except for those of us who use a launcher like Apex and can't use.
Hello ExDialer.

I didn't bother trying to fix it -- it's too broken. Went with ExDialer. Not sure if I'll keep it but for $3 it's a lot easier and it works how I want it to, not the other way around.
What a joke.

Not sure if you're interested in this option, but how about creating a folder on your homescreen full of Direct Dial widgets for your favorite contacts? That's my method of speed dialing -- I just have to open the folder, then tap on the person I want to call.

I use to do this for my mom. Except for the folder. Just icons with pictures of family members.

That's a good home remedy, so to speak -- but I found ExDialer and am really satisfied with it. It's still (I think) in trial mode, so not sure if it will cut out on me in a day or two or three, but for $4 (I think) I won't mind buying it and having it without the need to bounce in and out of a dialer to make calls. Your solution will definitely solve the problem, but b/c I'm using Apex I would have to create a secondary dial menu and then point to either the stock dialer or ExDialer. If ExDialer was prohibitively expensive and this was my only solution, I'd go with it, but they really made a mistake -- for no good reason -- by dumping something like speed dial options.

I may set this up for my girlfriend -- she doesn't do speed dials but if she has tiles in a folder on her TouchWiz (on her 7Edge) she may start using speeddials. Then again, Samsung didn't **** the bed with their dialer so maybe she won't LOL

Good idea but doesn't address my main problem of wanting access to the dialpad without trying to navigate those tiles. I make personal calls to the same four people but I often make calls to businesses or such that I need the dialpad for I tried Drupe but it kept dropping calls, like every two minutes. Will try ex dialer next.

How is that any easier than just clicking on the phone icon and tapping the picture or the favorites already shown there?

On Google's Phone app, the favorite icons are relatively large, so if you have more than about 8 favorites, you have to scroll down. In addition, the favorites screen fills the whole screen, which on a big screen phone like the 6P means you might have to adjust your grip if you want to tap one of the tiles with your thumb one-handed. The homescreen folder is smaller, making it easier for one-handed use.

Not saying my way is right -- it's just what works best for me.:)

That's the key -- there's no right or wrong, it's the fact that there are so many different ways to get to where each of us wants/needs to go. That's why them dumping speed-dials made no sense to me.

On second thought, it is wrong. They totally screwed up ;-)
