If I purchased a pixel 2 from Verizon and did not pay the phone off with them and my account went into collections will they be able to lock the phone down?

This was not my intent but extenuating circumstances determined this for me.

Yes, I believe they can blacklist your IMEI.

It would not only go to collections and hurt your credit... The phone would be blacklisted on every single carrier. The phone would basically be useless as a mobile device. It would only work on wifi.

So it being blacklisted overrides the fact that it is an unlocked phone by Google? I understand non Google phones being blacklisted...

You purchased through Verizon regardless of who produced the phone so they can Black list the number.

Any phone that isn't paid for gets shared to a global IMEI blacklist database that all carriers share.

Not paying for a phone will warrant it useless.. regardless of it being a carrier phone or one from the manufacturer.

They aren't going to allow you to have a phone and not pay for it. That is how things work... You can't use what you didn't pay for.

Oh trust me I'm not trying to not pay for the phone. I'm only $117 short of having it paid in the next 5 days. So I am trying to make it happen.

Do you mean your bill overall? It won't happen instantly. All have forgiveness periods .. but let's say you don't pay for 3 months that's another story.

Yes, the phone can be blacklisted and the account will be sent to a collection agency, typically within 90 days. They can't brick the phone, but they can make it unable to be used in any network within the us. At that time it becomes a stolen device as it was taken and not paid for.
