I just recently got a new Pixel XL. I'm loving it so far.
How do you have your camera set up? I notice that there are options for 4:3 and 16:9. 4:3 seems rather short to me. Aren't most computer monitors widescreen which is 16:9? I'd hate to get great pictures and not have them fit well on my monitor for wallpapers.

I have adjusted mine to a 16:9 setting that is 8mp. Pictures still look fantastic on both the phone (I get comments saying wow that looks nice) and a 40 inch TV screen. Didn't like the black bars that the default 12 mp setting gave

Had anyone seen a difference in quality? It seems like the 8.3 vs 12.3 megapixels might make a difference. I do want the want the widescreen view so I can use the pictures as desktop wallpapers.

As far as I know, the quality would be the same for 4:3 12.3MP and 16:9 8.3MP. When you take a 16:9 picture, the software just crops the top and bottom of a 4:3 picture off. Hence, a lower pixel count.

This.

It just crops the image coming off of the sensor. I choose to do that myself if I want a wider aspect ratio so I always use the maximum setting.

Like I tell my wife whenever I catch her zooming in; just edit/crop in post. If you change your camera from 4:3, the default format for photography by the way, to 16:9, the app is cropping the picture when it's saved so you lose 33% of the picture for good.

Always, always, always keep the setting on the highest resolution.
