Pixel XL messages

I remember in the past to be able to set a text tone to a specific contact. I see the option for a ringtone but where did the option go for message (text) tones.

I might be wrong, but I don't believe the Pixel XL ever supported this. I work around it by using the "Custom SMS Tones" app: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...id=com.roadkill.customsmstones&token=EIv7mK44

If you're using the stock Messages app, find a message from the contact you wish to have a custom notification for. You have to select that message thread from that person. Then hit the three stacked dots in the top right corner, choose People & Options, Notifications, Sound. Each contact can have a custom SMS tone as long as you follow this path.

Haha, you just blew my mind! Do you need to keep the message threads on your phone for this to work? I always delete my messages when I'm done with the conversation.

Yes that is what kind of sucks.. every time you delete the message for the contact it goes back to the default notification.

Messages take up so little room I don't delete them, I had no idea the custom sounds would go away, sorry!

Yeah, I'm weird. I delete them when the "conversation" is over so I don't have to scroll through tons of messages.
