Pixel XL or S7 Edge

After seeing all the reviews I went ahead and jumped on the Pixel from my S7 edge.

Honestly, I don't see what's all the fuss is about. Granted I was using Nova launcher on my S7 edge and it was an exynos version, they both worked practically the same. Yes, the Pixel is a bit more smoother and consistent but I don't really notice it unless I'm really looking for it.

I will be returning the Pixel and keeping my Edge.

The most important thing for me is the price to quality ratio. S7 edge seems to me like a COMPLETE device. I appreciate companies taking time and energy out to design their products inside out. Makes me feel like I've paid the right amount to the right people. The S7 edge is just COMPLETE.

In addition, always on display is something I'm hooked to. Along with the sexy curved edges and of course, water resistance is a big big plus.

Pixel is too boring and Under-designed. It's well optimised of course but I know but it feels extremely out dated when comparing to the Edge.

Next year is the year of bezel free screens and curved edges and what not, I think the Pixel will get out-phoned just around February or March. Phones with much better designs and features will be out. By then, 'optimisation' will be an outdated argument. S7 edge will still be relevant with good performance and amazing hardware.

So for me, S7 edge is a complete phone while the Pixel just seems like an experiment from Google checking how much people are willing to pay for Software alone.
Great feedback thanks for sharing.

Well said. I had the pixel XL (just ordered the regular pixel) and found the battery to be MUCH better than the S7E. I do not get good battery life with my s7e, I did when I first got it and it has gone downhill every security update

I haven't used the S7e since July and had good battery then. A shame that the battery life has tanked with updates but that doesn't surprise me with Samsung. The battery on my regular S7 that I got a few weeks ago after I took my note 7 back is trash. So far so good with the pixel xl

And the biggest personal gripe I have is having to feel the following feeling;

When I was in the shop looking at Pixel and the iPhone 7 side by side, I saw much better value for money with the iphone.

This has never happened before. And I hated how this was true. In the past iOS devices meant compromises, now it was the best from Google.

Google has changed the iOS vs Android game. They made the iphone look better.

I don't like it. I don't like it at all.

The iPhone 7 plus is a damn nice phone. The only reason I will consider returning the Pixel XL at the end of my return period is because I can't keep my sim out of the iPhone. I prefer Android to iOS obviously but ios10 has at least made it to where I don't feel like I'm giving up a lot to use the iPhone. While I first thought the secondary lense of the 7plus was gimmicky I've found it to be quite useful. The 7 plus is more of an upgrade than I ever thought it would be.

That said I'm really liking the XL right now.

Well OP, I haven't used the Pixel XL but I did use the S7 edge (and the Note 7), and it really boils down to this.

You go with the Pixel XL if you want;
  • Fast and timely updates direct from Google
  • Want a USB-C port
  • Prefer Google's own vision of Android
  • Want the absolute latest and greatest hardware wise
  • Want something different

On the other hand, you may fancy the S7 edge if;
  • You want everything but the kitchen sink in terms of features
  • You also want a phone that looks pretty (subjective)
  • You want water-resistance
  • You need an SD card slot
  • Samsung Pay

Personally, I'd take the S7 edge. I really liked that phone and personally, I think it's still probably the best all-rounder of 2016. Of course, this is all subjective, but my best advice is to give both a test drive and see which one best fits your usage.

Thanks! I currently have Nexus 6P. I would have gone to Pixel XL. the reason I didn't is because of price. I feel charging that much for so many missing features compared to S7 Edge is absurd. The only thing that phone has going for it is quick updates. But again, I don't think that justify the premium price.

I used to be a Samsung user. Had S3, Note 3 and 4 before moving to Nexus 6 and then 6P.

There are some crazy deals on S7 Edge right now. With exceptional design (arguably best looking phone), much more improved touchwize (getting even better soon with Android 7 upgrade), water resistant, SD card, and wireless charging. I'm finding it very hard to move from nexus 6p to Pixel XL and pay up.

Since you have a 6P, the Pixel is actually not too far off that phone. In fact, if you're running the 7.1.1 beta, you can turn it into a pseudo-Pixel complete with its features.

The Pixel is probably better for familiarity, but if you want something different, the S7e is a fine choice.

I've had the s7 edge since it came out and I don't like it. Meaning the design, -love the inside of it). I've them all since the s1 and I loved them. What I'm not as happy about with the s7 edge is how it feels holding it. I have small hands (not like Trump but girls-hands) and the edges kind of hurts.

I ordered the pixel yesterday. First phone not a samsung in a long time, and hope I won't be disappointed.

That's why I can't justify to pay up for Pixel XL. The phone really looks so, well plain. I think I'm ready to get back to Samsung. I left when TouchWiz was horrible and phones were plasticy feeling. Samsung came a long way since then. Water resistance and wireless charging are 2 huge pluses for me.

VZ has this S7 edge for free with a tradein. I have S3 sitting around but have no idea if that qualify for a trade in. Nothing on the site that indicates if it does or not!

I can't agree with you more, that's why I went for the regular size pixel. I've always had the large display phones and as a girl it's so cumbersome to hold, especially the s7 edge. The sides are so thin there is nothing to grab. It's not at all comfy in the hand, but the curved edges do help make the form factor super nice compared to a iPhone 5.5" screen. I get my pixel Tuesday and really excited to use it.

No but the point is, keeping iOS vs Android debate aside, you get more (dual speakers, waterproofing, refined design) with the iphone as compared to the "best" android device for the price. This used to be the other way around before the Pixel came out.

So true. Things are opposite now and that's sad. Google made a bit of a dud here. It's already outclassed by older devices, and the iphone, and as soon as the new androids come out in a few months it will be left in the dust.

And that applies to all technology nowadays. It's only great until the next best thing

Thank you all for the feedback. I made the jump to S7 Edge. Great best buy deal on VZ. Got the Carol Blue. Phone looks great. Hope performance lives up to my expectations coming from a screening fast 6P ;)

Torn between the 2. I know each has their advantages and disadvantages and that is not what I'm looking for in this post.
I'm looking for feedback from folks who have or had both. Please share you thoughts if you are one that does/did.

Thank you!

I've has both. I bought the xl and kept going back and forth. I went with the xl BC the experience is just so much better. No lag is a great feeling. Yeah it's not as feature packed but u get over it. I got used to not having wireless charging again. Having the reversible plug helped for me.
