Maybe for the wrong reason

Myself, and a couple of friends all noticed a rattle, very faint, by the camera. Well I was not crazy about it and sent it back.
It turns out with them having it, and me going into Best Buy, and their Pixel having it that it is supposed to be "normal.

I don't know about that. One guy said it was the lens opening or shutting or ???

Sort of sorry I sent the phone back, but don't know if I could have handled that noise paying a ton, without Google or HTC saying "that noise, that's supposed to be there."

LOL
G'night

OIS... Optical Image Stabilization.
Thanks Nahoku

So it seems that most phones don't have a rattle you can hear. So I assume you are saying They either don't have OIS or that every phone has it with a different degree of that noise ??. That wouldn't bother you and you'd have no problem buying ?

Thanks Much

(You're helpful. Let me ask about an article I was reading about the Anker E5. They were saying it is good, but as good as Anker is they can't believe they go USB A to type C. Maybe go C to C?
Could you help explain to me why they would say that, and if they are correct, then why are almost all Chargers type A2 micro USB or type c)

Some phones do rattle more than others. Both my Note 4's rattle if I shake them hard enough. Does it bother me? Not a bit or I wouldn't have bought two of them. Even my Panasonic vid camera rattles, along with my Canon G11. I guess it all depends on how much you can tolerate, or expect.

I have no idea what Anker is doing. The last I heard about them was that they recalled something or other that had to do with their type C chargers blowing up charging ports or something like that.

so it really should be there. No problem there??
If you turn on the camera and the rattle goes away, plus the camera works as expected, then it's probably ok. Have you spoken to Google about it?

A quick search on Google about the Pixel rattle pulls up all kinds of hits. People just like yourself are asking the same questions.

Thanks again Nahoku. to get my final question in where I hijacked my own thread.....
Do you know if the OnePLus Type C and Dash Type C cablels are ok to use. When they came out they were not and fixed devices and offered refunds on the wires. I imagine 6-18months the problem would be solved?

It does...or did go away when opening the camera app. So that's what I thought

I have the OP3T coming which I love. I can order the Pixel XL and keep both or sell one if need be. thanks again. G'night

I really don't know. All my devices use USB and not type C so I haven't even bothered looking into type C. Last I heard is Google is pushing to get away from fast charging (Qualcom) but apparently Dash C stays within the voltage specs.

The Nexus 6P also did it. Went through 3 (different issues) of them and they all did it. But once you open the camera app, it stopped.

I have ranted about this a few times. I can't see how it is by design or considered normal. My current xl does it and it is the first phone i have owned that did. My sons pixel does it. I am hoping my new xl shipping by 12-26 doesn't have it.

We are all a product of many years of people before us and knowledge built upon previous knowledge. These phones, or any phone at this point, are designed by many, knowledge abound. Nothing is designed by accident. So this is either a mistake, which I doubt considering people advising its on several brands over time, or a lesser of 2 evils. Not sure I agree because it should have been resolved by now. mine xl did not do it out of the box.

How "loud" does the pixel rattle? Seems from all the complaints, this thing is loud. On my Note 4's, I have to hold the phone up to my ear to actually hear it rattle, and then, I have to listen for it. It's not loud at all, but it's there. I guess if I could hear the rattle from arm's length away, it would make me wonder about it. Is that how the pixel is... you can hear it from arm's length away?

Not sure. I haven't noticed it on mine... But I also haven't violently shaked it like some to try to reproduce.

I'm actually going to be picking up a 65in Samsung TV tomorrow, shaking the **** out of it will be the first thing I do when I get it out of the box. The second is placing a fire extinguisher near by. (Just don't know these days).

Cameras and phones with cameras are all prone to a rattling sound. The focus mechanism has moving parts that are moved by a very small, very weak motor. If they are too tight the motor can't move them. They are kinda floating inside the lense. This is one of the oldest and most consistent complaints about smartphones. Been around a while now.

Some phones rattle, some don't. It's the camera mechanism every time. There is nothing wrong with the device.
