Planoman's Zenfone 2 Impressions

I was wondering planoman what your thoughts were on the tempered glass protector now that it's been on for a few days.
I'm still waiting for mine from China but I'm reading on other forums that some of the glass protectors were messing with the proximity sensors.

It is working just fine. I have had no issues with touch sensitivity or sensor related issues. This one does have the cutout for the sensor. Overall, I am pretty happy with it. For $10 and prime shipping on Amazon, it is a keeper.

When I first learned we were getting the phones, I ordered a glass protector. I was suspect of it from the start. When the phone arrived I saw that the hole for the sensor was not cut properly. Now I am out $10 because the return period has ended. Glad Planoman got a good one. That said, with my defective back cover, I am using the flip case because I can at least get that one off.

Are they selling different backs on the ASUS store or ebay yet?

Also got the glass protector like Planoman and fine it works perfect. I also got the Hot Cool case and it fits great, everything lines up. Just trying to figure out Google to transfer files to the Zenfone?

I am currently using the Simple Blue theme. I like the hex shaped icons! What themes or icon pack are you currently using?

One other feature I wanted to mention is the 64GB of Internal Storage AND a micro SD card slot. It has been a while since I used a micro SD card in a device. I have a 64GB micro SD that I use in my Meenova OTG adapter for my S6 and Nexus 6, mainly to transfer videos I have shot from the phone to the Micro SD card which I carry on my keychain.

I bought a new Sandisk Class 10 micro SD card for like $29 to use in my Zenfone 2 which I am saving my photos and videos to. Having 64GB internal storage AND 64GB micro SD card is so cool! Bloatware used to drive me nuts when phones had 16GB of internal storage which probably helped me move to nexus devices. With 64GB internal storage it is not as big deal and the micro SD card is icing on the cake!

Very well done review of the phone. I have to agree that it feels much easier to hold and use than a Nexus 6 and iphone 6 plus, both of which I have owned and used. Its a good balance of big screen without being too big as a former Note 2 and Note 3 user.

Plus I found the flip cover functions to be useful and I typically never go for flip covers or those features but this time it was good to have.

I just realized that the ZenFone 2 has Wi-Fi on the 2.4 GHz band only and not the 5 GHz band also. I assumed since it has AC wireless it included dual band.

I just upgraded my home router and was resetting all of my devices when I noticed. I had an AC router before but used 2.4 because of better range. I normally use the 5GHz band for my iPad and phones if the signal is strong enough. The range is good and the speed is not as fast as 5 GHz but still plenty fast.

I upgraded to the Asus AC3200 router. It is kinda expensive, but man does it scream. 3 separate channels (2.4, 5hi and 5low) to use so all of your devices are not competing for the same bandwidth. The range of the 5GHz bands is better than previous routers I have used.

....!

I have mine connected to a 5GHz n network. You can set the frequency under advanced wifi settings. I don't have an ac router to check if there is a problem with 5GHz ac but make sure you have the setting right first.

Thank you! I stand corrected. It does have 5GHz band but it looks like you have to select it in the Wi-Fi settings as JPR pointed out. Working fine on 5GHz AC.

WOW! Here are speed tests on wifi 2.4 GHz and then on 5GHz AC after jpr posted that you must set it to 5GHz. This is from the same spot in our family room. Pretty big difference in speeds on wi-fi!
