Hi all,

In March I'm getting to drive my new car (Toyota Celica T23 from 2000) and I'm planning to make some changes here and there.

Multimedia-receiver is the first thing, which is going to a Pioneer AVH-X8800BT.

Now after reading countless of articles how "awesome" Android Auto is, I never got to read about playing music from your device directly, outside of using streaming apps eating data.

Before I'm going to buy the receiver I need to know if there is an easy way to make Android Auto play my music from the Samsung S6, instead of streaming apps.

TL;DR How do I play music directly from cellphone whilst using Google Maps in Android Auto, without using streaming apps such as Spotify, Google Play, ..

King Regards

Look through several of the recent posts. There are several working options to play music from your phone within AA. There may be some feature limitations but they will work.

Already done that and seeing MDPlayer and JetAudio popping up mostly.
Thig is I have no idea how these work so explanation on how it works would be nice

I can comment on JetAudio because that is what I use. Basically you have your music loaded in your music folder on your phone. When you start JetAudio on your phone is sees all this music and you can view it by Artist, Album, whatever. Then you can play it, it also has an equalizer and some other sound effect settings you can mess with.

Its operation in Android Auto consists of bringing it up on the screen from the AA audio menu. Once it's up, it doesn't let you look by Album, Artist, etc. It lets you Play All, or Shuffle All. Also you can choose Playlists. So your best option for playing specific stuff when driving is to have playlists constructed that you can choose from. It does not seem to have the grestest voice command capabilities, but I have not tried the voice all that much with JetAudio. Perhaps someone else has more comments regarding voice.

It seems to play your music in AA, with whatever equalizer setting you currently have selected. You cannot access these settings from within AA, so you must set the equalizer before you connect AA. I have found what sounds good in the headphones, sounds like crap through the car.

So basically I need to download JetAudio onto my phone, see if it sees all the music I stored on the cellphone, create playlists, divide the songs into those playlists on my phone and done? SO all the actions described above need to be done on the phone and that's it?

Yes that's about it. As you say you can create the playlists right on the phone.

If you download just the free version, it has a smaller equalizer, and occasionally throws up an add screen, but it won't do that when using it in the car. You can pay a few bucks for the Pro version with no ads and larger equalizer.

Why not just use GPM in "downloaded only" mode?
Maybe doesn't want to subscribe to a service to access media he already owns. Question- Does GPM in offline mode work with voice commands? Doesn't with Spotify and physical interaction severely limited so it is useless aside from playlists and even those can be too cumbersome if you have numerous.

No subscription necessary, GPM allows you to upload up to 50,000 tracks without one.

IIRC voice commands work in offline mode, but I usually listen to Pocket Casts. For music, I have a 64GB USB drive I keep directly plugged into the 4100.

Look in the Google Store under Android Auto. There are several music apps you can use with AA in addition to Google Music. I have successfully used MDPlayer.
