Sometimes when listening to music with the play music app the nexus 7 will not turn off, and will lock the screen. The only way I can turn it off is to hold the power button on for a long time, then restart. It also does this when listening with pandora app.

Never heard of this. What ROM are you running? What kernel? What weird or experimental changes have you possibly toyed with that might contribute.. anything you can think of ....

My nexus is doing weird things when listening to music with it. I have a unlocked rooted stock nexus with TWRP recovery on it. I use blue tooth headphones with mine, but I use iHeartRadio and my screen does turn off well listening to it. The first weird thing about it is after the screen turns off a few minutes after that the music cuts in and out and the music stops. When I turn the screen back on it shows that it has stopped the app from playing music because the little triangle play button is clickable.
The second problem I have is well using blue tooth headphones, where the music will stop (unrelated to the first problem) and when I try to turn the screen back on it lags for a few seconds and then the lock screen will shutter and freak out trying to align the music app and the pattern lock on top of each other.
My third problem is well using blue tooth headphone and I put my nexus into the charging dock the music cuts out and I cant get the screen to turn back on or the music to play till I ether turn off my blue tooth headphones or reboot my nexus by holding the power button.
As far the the problem that William Pendy is having I'v never had it. The only thing that comes to my mind is that it is some strange bugged form of daydreaming that it is doing. Whats the length of time after you stop touching your nexus that it locks itself on? and have you changed the settings for when the screen turns itself off?
