I've never done this before and would like to know a few things:

  1. Is this possible?
  2. What cable do I need to do this?
Spotify access has been shut down at my work, but I have unlimited data on my phone so I'd like to use that instead. Please advise and thank you!

At the very least, if you want to actually play through your computer, would be to get a male-to-male 3.5mm cable (example). You would then need to go from your phone to the computer's mic port, but you'd also need to run an application that will play the mic input on the computer.

But, as someone who has the same problem at his office, the absolute EASIEST way to listen to music via your phone is to simply unplug your speakers from your computer and plug the cable into your phone's headphone jack. Obviously if you're using a laptop with builtin speakers, this isn't an option, but if you have external speakers or a monitor-attached speaker bar or something like that it will work.

Before doing anything, of course, make sure you're not violating any company policies!

My speakers actually have an input jack on the front of them, so I will get the 3.5mm cable and give it a whirl! There is more than one way to skin a cat (and an IT department)!
