My play store isn't working. When I try to download an app it says "download pending" but never downloads anything. When I go to settings it FCs also.

I tried reinstalling it, deleting accounts, deleting cache and data and it doesn't work.

I read somewhere that it does this when its permissions are lost.

How do I fix this?

You could try resetting app preferences. Sometimes this helps with Play services issues. This will delete all defaults you have set, so you will have to redo all those.

Tried that but doesn't work. I read somewhere that I need to reset some rights or permissions. There's a file you flash that addresses this granting of rights. But I don't know know where the webpage is located anymore. But let me know what to do. Thanks.

If it's a permission error, you should be able to change them in settings>apps. Scroll down to Play services.

I would honestly try a reset. I wouldn't be comfortable flashing a file to do what you need to.

Wow!. Yeah I hear you. But I got so many personalized settings and all I really need is just to fix this play store. Believe it not I had this same issue before and I had installed black play store from team blackout. It fixed the issue! But it doesn't fix it now for whatever reason.

I respect tyour suggestion of resetting. But honeslty given that I got so much stuff thats personalized could you at least suggest another possible solution??

Fair enough.

You could try a data clear on the Play services app. this will wipe almost everything Google related on your device. You will have to sign back into your Gmail account. I am almost hesitant to say do this because I have seen this method mess with devices to the point that people have had to reset anyway.

Getting back to flashing files (I was on a break at work and did not have time to fully explain why)...I am totally fine with flashing ROMs. I have done it on numerous Samsung devices and my Nexus devices. ADB and fastboot commands are familiar territory for me. The part that makes me uncomfortable is I have NEVER heard of flashing a single file to address an issue like this. That has the Star Trek Red Alert sound running through my head every time I even entertain the idea.

The Samsung link is an updated version of flashing files for Samsung devices. Ambassador @Rukbat asked me if he could update my guide so that it reflected newer UI screens.

I think I remember that there was a file like this, but I think that might have been a few Android versions old. I'll look into it, but I think a clean flash may be in your future.

As for the customizations, you could always do a good TB backup that includes you system settings, but then again that could pull in what's busted.

Hey LeoRex. I got TB but I never backed up any apps before with it. Will backing up apps with TB restore apps fully with all their personal settings intact?

Yes, I'm guessing you have root access. If it's like for like (same base ROM version, build) TB will back up app data, even system app data, if you choose.

Look at the docs to see what does what. You can create a backup that's as full a restore as you can get.

I see. And yes I'm rooted. Well I got MM but was thinking about updating to Nougat. So according to you, TB wouldnt backup my apps precisely considering the update, huh?

TB has the option up backup just the app as well as the app data.. There's also a mode to create a zip you can flash (never tested that though).

You have to be careful about what system data you back up... And which apps you pick there.

I spent a couple of hours once playing around with the settings and trying things out and I was able to get it to the point where I could get it back to pretty much the exact point I was before wiping.

Hey LeoRex,

Just to make sure, are you saying I can backup my apps and their data with MM and then restore them when I install Nougat?

That might be a little tricky... Sorry, missed it. The system data might be a little hairy to restore. The app data should be ok though.

Of course TWRP makes that easier. You can back the whole system (including MM) up, then restore just the data (your apps and their data, including things like your Google account) - or restore the whole thing including the system (which would be MM in your case) if anything went wrong with Nougat, or you decided that you didn't like it.

Hey LeoRex,

Please don't forget about looking into that file you mentioned about hopefully restoring the play atore. Very important! Thanks my man!

There might be a function in TWRP that will accomplish the same goal. I've been running stock for a bit, so I don't have anything to check.

I'll look for that file as well.
