Maybe someone can answer this for me as I have yet to find a real answer. Why are a significant number of New Release movies in the Play store only available in Stereo. I prime example is Kingsman, this is a 2015 release and only available in stereo.

Thanks,

Alex

It's not up to Google, unfortunately. The release dates, formats, and soundtracks (including languages and sound formats) are up to each distributor. Sometimes it's about copyright issues (Dolby gets royalties if they release in 5.1 or 7.1 channels), sometimes it's about deals with companies, like getting first on Amazon or HD only in iTunes and such.

It's also up to the production house if they're large enough. With the smaller producers, a company like Google may determine the rules. With Sony Pictures, Google sells what it gets - if Sony decides to release through Google. The 500 pound gorilla in the room always wins. (My brother is a distributor - he's the half-pound monkey in the room. He produces what he's told they'll buy.)
