Player and Monitor?

Only if said monitor has audio capabilities. If not, you'll only get the image, not audio.

I was close to making the same mistake once hehe, then I remembered that movies come with audio! Hehe.

This is the issue with my 27" HP monitor in my bedroom right now. And even if you buy a computer monitor with speakers usually they aren't too good.

There are some solution, you can buy a HDMI splitter. I have this one and it work with the Roku Streaming Stick: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ECTHIKK...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU3965886

I ended up buying the Roku 3, which have a remote controller have a headphone output and it's pretty much no latency.

You wouldn't have to rely on the monitor's cheap built-in speakers if it had audio output (like 3.5mm stereo or a "headphone" output port). You would lose 5.1 surround sound but you were going to lose that anyway. Then you can plug in pretty much any set of speakers through the monitor's headphone output. At this rate though, you will likely be able to find a 1080p LCD HDTV at a lower cost than a 1080p monitor. You also know that an HDTV will have speakers built-in. I purchased a 27" 1080p Vizeo LCD HDTV ($200) earlier this year that was $50 less than my 23" 1080p HP monitor ($250). My monitor was an IPS LCD display but still, you get the idea.

The other thing about the monitor is that it needs to be HDCP compatible. That was an issue a while ago but most monitors, especially ones with HDMI input, tend to be HDCP compliant.

Sony soundbars have HDMI switching. The one I have can take 3 HDMI in and output video only to the display, the audio being decoded appropriately and sent to the soundbar and sub.

Ignore these guys yes it will work if it has hdmi as for audio if the monitor has a jack like mine you can plug speakers into it. Or some monitors have built in speakers

Ignore who? So far, I haven't come across a post in this thread that was incorrect. Nobody said that it wouldn't work either.
