Can I buy a microUSB-to-USB adapter and plug in a wireless USB gaming controller or like a Playstation controller and play games on my phone?

If so, what is my cheapest option for a wireless controller?

I have the Moga controller. Great stuff. Cost me $32 from Amazon, works with Bluetooth. Doesn't work for every game, but you can find a list online of compatible games, also works great for emulators.

The cheapest alternative is this https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...pixelstudios.sixaxiscontroller&token=daLku7PS. It allows you to use your existing PS/3 controller with your SGSIII via bluetooth. The only caveat is that your phone must be rooted.
You can use this https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...os.sixaxiscompatibilitychecker&token=0sr_5-Vy to verify compatibility with your phone and controller before purchasing the full app (but again, it requires root).
I've used one of my PS/3 controllers, and with the MHL connection to the big screen it's just like playing a console game, but on your phone.

The games that work with the PS3 controllers, will they also work with off-brand generic PS3 controllers? Or must it be an official Sony PS3 DUALAXIS controller?

And does the PS3 controller + app work with any bluetooth-enabled Android device (such as a Nexus 7 or Rikomagic Android stick)?

From what i have read, it has to be an official PS3 controller. The bluetooth enabled app works if you are rooted, all you have to do is get the app to test if it will connect, correct me if im wrong but the one to see if it will work with your phone is free?

The Sixaxis Compatibility Checker is a free download. If you have a generic controller you should definitely use this to see if the controller works or not.

From what I can tell, the Sixaxis software should work with any recent Android device, like a Nexus 7 for example.
As to whether it has to be an authentic PS/3 DualShock Controller - I can't answer that, since I don't have any generic controllers to test with. The description does mention some generic controllers that work, and of course you could wing the developer a note asking about whichever controller you have.
