I'm trying to play music over USB with ford sync MFT. When I first plugged my SGS3 in, it complained that it could not play protected media. Sync only detected podcast mp3 files on the phone's internal memory. However, all my music files are unprotected m4a's, stored on an external SD card and Sync did not detect any of it. I've played the m4a's before successfully when just loaded on a USB stick. Anyone know how to get this to work?

Maybe I am missing something here but in my 2008 Lincoln with Sync I play my tunes and podcasts using Bluetooth. Why bother to plug it into USB?

This. Why plug it in when you can use bluetooth? I get my phone on Monday and will try this, if you don't fix it by then.

Yes it works through bluetooth but I like plugging it in via USB so that I can use SYNC's voice commands to play music instead of having to fiddle with the phone while driving. I have not figured out how to get it to work yet.

Synch with bluetooth allows voice commands. You just can't search for songs, artists, albums and playlists. But, you can say the following commands for bluetooth:

Play
Play Previous Track
Pause
Play Next Track

When I plug my Droid RAZR via USB, I have to have USB Debugging on. When I go into MTP mode, it says it's indexing on the radio screen. I once left it this way for over 45 minutes and it never quit.

Not sure what the issue is.
