Playing Movies from Google Play

A couple of things. First, why on earth when I go to purchase an HD movie from Google Play would it tell me the movie isn't compatible for my device? Are they kidding me?

Second, after I've "downloaded" the movie why does it tell me that I won't be able to view the movie unless I'm online?

I don't use the movie service that google offers, but I can take a few guesses. It probably shows compatibility issues due to your screen size. Most of the movies on google play are probably at a resolution for mobile phones, not tablets (especially 10 inch tablets). It should run fine, but the picture quality would probably suck. As for the download thing, I'm guessing that you aren't downloading the movie properly. You should be able to download the movie onto the tablet so it plays fine offline. I think you just hit "purchase" and didn't hit "save to device" after you bought the movie. Another thing that could be happening is that you only rented the movie. It needs to be connected to the internet to check that you still can play the movie (rent only lasts about a day or two).

Given all the crap one must go through I'm probably not going to bother with movies from Google. Where is the best place to get digital movies that I can play in HD on this tablet? It's been a while since I've bought a blue ray with digital copy. Do those usually include the ability to download a digital copy that's compatible with android?

The movie can only be played in the app, it's stored in a cache folder. I usually just use netflix. And yeah most movies now come with a digital copy for iphone and android
