Playing Music from HTC One on Home Theater system

Now that I'm trying out Google's new Play Music app, I'm curious how people play music through their home theater systems? I have an Onkyo TX-NR616 receiver. With my iPhone 4S I would plug it into the front USB port labelled "iPod". I tried that with my One but it didn't work.

Get a 1/8" male by 1/8" male stereo cable and plug one end into the One's headphone jack and the other end into the 1/8" stereo input (not the headphone jack) on the Receiver.

Or conversely, a 1/8" male to red and white male rca plugs, then connect the rca plugs to the home theater system line in. That is, if there are rca jacks on the Onkyo.

I would recommend a Bluetooth receiver. I purchased a rocketfish one through Best Buy and it works like a charm. I can control my music from anywhere in the house, including volume and track selection.

I have an Onkyo receiver too but I forget which one. I have a headphone jack lead permanently plumbed into twin rca's on a spare input so anyone can come along and plug anything into it. I used to have a very long lead from the pc in the next room which I could control from my phone by WiFi, but since that went bang I have been pc free.

I doubt that you could use Bluetooth from anywhere in the house (unless it is a very small house) because the range is limited to about 10m, less if things like walls are in the way. I did used to have a stand alone Bluetooth speaker but tbh, it was terrible, the actual sound quality was good but there was always a very noticeable background hiss whenever it was used wirelessly.

If you do want to go wireless then look at HTC's Media Link HD, it is designed to plug into a tv via hdmi to mirror your phone display, but if you route the hdmi through the receiver, audio should be no problem. Haven't got one myself yet but it's on the list, so can't comment but it's gets very good feedback on Amazon and such. Someone on here is bound to have one so they can tell you if it works or not. Not sure how much it is in the US but in the UK it is about ?80 from HTC or ?50-60 on Amazon.

Worst advice ever.

I just learned that you can use MHL (Mobile HDMI Link) from the micro-USB to HDMI, using an adaptor such as this:

Best Buy Rocketfish - MHL HDTV Adapter - Black : Questions, Answers, How To, FAQs, Tips, Advice, Answers, Buying Guide

There is also a straight MHL cable for A/V equipment that is MHL-capable. I was able to view and listen to videos from Gallery, as well as music from music player (I use the excellent Remix player). I had to wonder if audio quality is better through HDMI than the headphone jack; still not sure.

Does your receiver support DLNA?

Ok. Explain please.

Because I had been using a 1/8" cable, an RCA adapter cable, and now this Bluetooth box. The latter works best.

Rather than giving absolutely the most useless feedback ( "worst advice ever") why don't you quantify that with some kind of explanation?

OP, I have had very good experience with my Bluetooth adapter. Someone above stated that distance is an issue. Yes, it would be if you had a large home, as this is just Bluetooth class 2, which caps out at 36 feet from base and phone.

Oh, my living room happens to be in the middle of the house which is why I can control it from just about anywhere.

I use HTC media link HD, it works flawlessly. I use it from the comfort of my couch :p

It's about the same, I have a dock with hdmi input in my car that mirrors my phone on to my 8" dash screen for streaming Netflix, sometimes I use an aux cable. But both of the above methods give me richer sound than Bluetooth a2dp even though my car supports Bluetooth 2.0. At home I use htc media link HD, which is awesome
