I have a Bluetooth equipped vehicle. Nevertheless, is it possible to play music from the Pixel 2 XL via a hardwire from the USB-C port through the headphone dongle adapter and into the vehicle Aux In input?

Bypassing the Bluetooth for playing music yet still using Bluetooth for phone calls?

yes, if the auxiliary and uses the 3.5 mm plug. If it is trying to read the USB for media, then it doesn't

Are you asking if you can continue to play music while taking a phone call over BT?

Or

Are you asking if you can play music via your USB-C connection while having BT be reserved only for calls?

No, not asking that.

I presume the phone call would interrupt any music playing and take priority through the vehicle's speakers.

My primary question is: Can I play music over my vehicle's stereo system using the AUX IN input on my vehicle? This was a feature that was lost to me when Android went to Lollipop, at least in the Ford F150 truck I had back then. I'm now driving a 2015 Ram 1500 with UConnect 8.4.

My secondary question is: If I can play music using the AUX IN input, will the bluetooth interrupt the music and put the phone call on the vehicle's speakers?

You asked if I wanted to reserve BT only for calls. Well, what else is bluetooth used for in the vehicle besides calls? From reading other threads I understand that bluetooth does not work with Google Assistant, at least non-vehicle based bluetooth (meaning bluetooth headsets). But as far as I know I can't give a command, "Navigate to Mall of America" to Google Assistant over my vehicle's BT. Or can I?

No, you can't use Google Assistant from the car radio - Bluetooth or wired. (Some car audio systems have external mics for phone calls, but they won't work for Google Assistant - you have to use the internal mic for that.)

But you can use the earphone jack, whether it's a discrete jack or one you get from a dongle from the USB port, to feed audio to the car radio.

And you can also feed audio from the phone to the car radio by Bluetooth - at the same time, if your car radio has a media profile. Connect, then tap the gear to the right of the car radio line. If there's a media (or multimedia) line, tap the checkbox to enable it, and you'll get all your audio through the radio.

Not fully true ... If your car has Android Auto you can def. use GA and call out "OK Google" to get its attention.
