Having all sorts of problems. Tried several times to update and it can never complete, always get the attached screen.

Smart Switch doesn't seem to make any sense and I run Linux on desktop.

Any guidance would make life a lot easier.

Many thanks.

It's O2 but pay as you go, not tied to anything.

OK I took it to my nearest service centre. Because I'm in Britain and because the Note 5 was never officially released in Britain they said there was nothing they could do.

Nevertheless while I was there I wiped the device clean and restored to factory settings in the hope that it would allow me to update as normal. It didn't.

The phone has been rooted.

I suspect that the kernal is bad in some respect and that this prevents me from successfully updating.

Would someone guide me towards whatever file I would need to root the phone with please?

The root access is why the update is being blocked. The OTA checks for that sort of thing and when it detects that it is rooted, the update stops.

You should be able to reflash the stock ROM and update. This will be like resetting all over again.

I don't suppose you'd be able to link me to precisely what I need would you? I think this is one of the contributing factors last time - I found it to be a bit of a maze and just sort of guessed.

Sorry for the delay. You can check Samsung updates .com, or sammobile for your files. XDA can be another good place to check. For flashing the files you need a PC program called Odin. I can link to a guide a little later.
