Hey everyone. I have been running stock root for a few months and lately verizon keeps trying to install update. i understand this is due to my obsolete radio. Problem is, i never installed a radio nor have a found any threads with links to the proper radio and i know theres like ALOT of em.

Can someone link me to the proper thread or let me know real fast how to install radio properly?

Ty, im looking at the list of froyo radios and

From the 1.12.605.6 RUU (Stock):

CDMA: 1.16.00.0223
md5: 143182b1c6f92bfea6b5be86f1b4e5d7
LTE: 0.01.49.0224
md5: 441d41c3984171e4fda313bf64c855ea

is the one i think i need because my baseband version on my phone matches with the CDMA #. So which do i download?? CDMA or LTE? And it says i need my phone to be S - Off.. how do i turn that off?

If you're stock rooot (same boat I'm in), would it be possible to unroot back to the original radios/have it autoupdate, then root again so you have the current radios for your bolt?

i dont think so because the software update is for a non root phone and wouldnt work with our current rooted phone... i think lol....

Did both of you just simply gain root, and not delete or move anything?

Alphatronix, CW wrote a guide about your S-Off question Here

If all you did was root and didn't remove bloat or any system files. If you unrooted you should be able to receive the OTA updates.

no i rooted and deleted system apps and unbloated. if i do update, my phone just restarts uncontrollably. so i guess i can only update the radio or install a dif rom.

By debloating you removed files from the system image that your update would be looking for.. Some people move the files to their sd card so they can put them back if they want to receive an update. You could flash one of the leaked ruus and get that stuff back if you wanted to get those files back.

I'm still new to rooting, but reading everyday and learning more. There are other ways to fix this i'm sure but I don't know what they are.

What software version are you on? Latest Froyo was 1.7xxxxx. If its anything less than that VZW will try and update you.

Ok, so i have to install the radio that goes with 1.70.605.0 RUU froyo and it should stop the updates?

It should.... but since there are not many people still using the old Froyo ROM it's hard to say how long this will work.

hi cyber. well I can safely say it doesn't work. I installed latest radio for stock Rom and I didnt get anyone final. so basically my only option is to install a different Rom?

I tried renaming the file in security folder and it says saved but file name doesn't change. so I don't know ifbt worked or not.

Go to the xda page I linked for radios.
Download the cdma radio
Leave it zipped
Rename it to pg05img
Move it to the root of your sd card (not in any subfolders... directly onto the main directory of the card)
Power the phone off... power back on while holding the volume down rocker at the same time until you see the white hboot screen.
The pg05img zip will automatically start installing itself
Select yes to update when asked using the volume keys
When its done installing... select the option to reboot the phone.
Remove the cdma radio (pg05img.zip) off of the sd card.

Download the Lte radio from the xda page that's linked..
Repeat the same steps as above.
When done ...don't forget to delete the pg05img from the sd card a second time.

You can use Astro file manager (from the market) or your computer to rename and move the zip files.. which ever is easier for you.

Both radio files cdma and lte... are the last set of radios on the xda webpage under Gingerbread radios.
CDMA: 1.48.00.0906
LTE: 0.01.78.0906

You can follow the Guide for better detailed instructions on installing radios:

ok now u confused me. gingerbread why? I use froyo. ok let's get everything cleared up. I am using a. rooted tb that I rooted in June. I uninstalled all bloatware and unless services. bout a month ago ota updates started and I was to busy to deal with it. now I can. so I changed otacert.zip to .zip.bak. it says it saves but file name doesn't actually change. its been 2 hours and no ota update yet. regarded radios. I didn't know that I have to install both cmda and LTE. now I know but from the list of radios there are many for froyo and gingerbread. now cyber, continue from there lol. all this just for stock root. lol. maybe I need to get a did Rom. also if I do go with another rom, how do I save my phone contacts?

@alpha
Oh okay lol.... I thought you were having trouble renaming the pg05img radio file.

Are you using Root Explorer to rename the file? Switching the grey box on the top right of the apps screen to Mount R/W before you rename it?

Also you don't have to switch to GB if you want to stay with Froyo but Gingerbread is the newer OS that was released.

no. I'm using super manager. it let's me rename it and it even says "saved" but I don't see the .bak ext. yet I havnt had an forced update for over 3 hours. usually happens very hour or 2. so I'm hoping it worked. on the issue of gingerbread. when you say OS. you mean Rom? that's where I get confused. I enjoy my stock root but ill change to gb roms if its better. you made sound like froyo is obsolete. I get so frustrated with these radios, roms, kernels.... spent weeks reading up on this stuff and im still lost. only thing I get is the actual hboot and flashing stuff but what needs to be flashed is above me.

A ROM is basically an OS (Operating System)... and Froyo is obsolete, or is very, very old since we are looking at the newest ROM (Ice Cream Sandwich) coming out officially very, very soon.

And there is the simplest install guide as a sticky thread: http://forums.androidcentral.com/thunderbolt-rooting-roms-hacks/77350-guide-how-backup-restore-install-roms-thunderbolt.html... and Cyber has already given you the simplest way of flashing a new radio file.

And besides you should not have to worry every hour or two, or even three that you will get an OTA pushed to your phone.
