Please Help - Phone Issues (Long)

Hello all, I?m a first time poster. Wanted to get on this forum and seek some guidance. I am extremely unhappy with my Thunderbolt. I was unhappy with my BB Storm 2 when it first came out, but this phone out did it in failure. I do not want to offend anyone here, but I think it is one of the worst phones I have owned. I have the following problems and wanted to find out where I can look for solutions for them. There are a lot of posts here, so maybe someone can be kind enough to point me in a right direction. I did the latest online update, but it didn?t solve any of the issues. I am also wondering if these are normal, or do I just have a bad phone? I got it on the first day it came out. Thank you for reading.

Contacts:

• The phone will not recognize any numbers that are coming in unless they have been recorded as 10 digit numbers in the phone book. It will see the 10 digit number as unknown unless it is 10 digits in the phone book.
• If I am just dialing using only 7 digits, the phone does not know who I am calling if the number is in the phonebook under 10 digits.
• The phone has created multiple contacts in the call history because sometimes it will use a Facebook profile. So I will have a call history for the contact in my phone and then another for the contact that the phone pulled of Facebook, even though it is the same person. That?s just ******ed and I don?t know why the phone does this.

Texting:

• My phone has given me some sort of error message before, I didn?t record it, but it has erased my entire text history for all contacts.
• At times it will not allow me to check certain person?s text message. It will say something along the lines of unable to open message or something like that.
• It for some reasons retains certain drafts (unfinished texts) and will always load it into a textbox when I try to text someone. It will retain that draft and will enter it into the text box for ever even after I erase the message in the Draft folder.
• Pictures that come in as a text messages will for some reason display as a slideshow. Sometimes not showing anything requiring me to hit an arrow. The pictures only stay displayed for around 5 seconds and then it just returns back to the text.

Calls:

• It tells me that I have a missed call even though I have used my phone since the last time the call was missed. It continuously tells me that there was a call missed for a contact sometimes for days.

Touch Screen:

• Sometimes my screen does not respond to touch. When my phone rings and that happens I miss the call. I have to press that button on top to shut it down and turn it on again so that the screen is active.
• When I pull the phone out of my pocket when it rings sometimes it will just answer that call.
• When I am ending a phone call I move the phone away from my ear the screen is black and does not respond to touch. It only becomes active when the other party hangs up.

4G:

• I?m in Vegas.
• 4G is absolutely terrible to say the least.
• Tells me my network connection is lost half the time I try to go online. I have to close the network and then enable it.
• Sometimes it just searches for a network and won?t go online.
• Network gets stuck. Almost like sporadic service, but no errors.
• 4G on Thunderbolt is slower than 3G was on my Storm 2.

Battery:

• Don?t even get me started? I don?t have any crap applications on this phone and my battery lasted for only a few hours.
• Got the larger battery. My phone looks like a brick now. Bulky and heavy.
• Extended battery still barely lasts through a day with moderate use.

Email:

• I use Corporate Exchange Server. I had my IT staff go through all the settings and email works, but it comes in sporadically.
• Outgoing emails sent from my phone will at times take days to arrive at their destination.
• Does Exchange email suck that much on Droid, or is my phone not programmed right? I know it is hard to for anyone to tell on the programming end, but do other here have Exchange issues? My Storm 1 and Storm 2 got and sent emails instantaneously with my Exchange Server.

Is this something you guys are dealing with or is my phone just possessed and I should get a new one? Thanks again.

Sorry to hear that you're having so many problems but based on what you have said about the touchscreen and the network issues, I'd say you have a defective unit and need it replaced. The phone does turn the screen black when you put it to your ear during a call (to prevent you from activating anything on the screen by accident) but should immediately turn the screen on once you pull it off your ear. It doesn't seem like it is doing that, so there could be a problem with the proximity sensor on your unit.

I don't use Exchange but, it is my understanding, that if set up properly, the email should work fine. I do believe there are time intervals that can be set up for the Exchange email, however.

Insofar as the 10 digits...that is the standard now in the majority of cities you have to dial all 10 digits. So, you need to program all phone numbers as 10 digit numbers. I've never had a problem when placing calls in cities where just 7 digits need to be dialed even though I have 10 digits on the numbers. So, all you should have to do is update the numbers with the area codes.

As for the exchange issue, download and try Nitrodesk touchdown, not perfect but better than the standard email. I use the copy to phone option in touchdown so all of my contacts show up in the phone app

It sounds like you have several issues:
A bad unit - if the touchscreen is unresponsive (though this cold possible be the inability of the phone to pay attention to you because of the next issue)
A rogue process that is eating up your battery.
and some usability stuff.
In Vegas I had rock solid 4G around the convention center and the hotels back in april and it was never slower than my storm.

I would start with a new unit.
