Please help, unlimited data

also I'd like to add one more thing, carries like sprint and tmobile who offer unlimited data and actively advertise it by all possible means, are simply attracting as many new customers as they can possibly get along with those who are switching just out of principle. but as soon as they'll start seeing excessive data usage they will discontinue their unlimited plans and switch to tiered. ATT and Verizon are the biggest carriers in United States and yet they discontinued unlimited plan while smaller companies still offer it its a no brainer to understand where its all heading to. lol

Thanks for the info everyone. I called AT&T before purchasing our new Skyrockets to give them a chance to match the Amazon $0.01 pricing and confirm that I would be grandfathered into the unlimited data plan. I was told incorrectly by two managers that there was no unlimited plan for LTE phones. Based on the info shared here, I called the support line tonight with my new bill in hand to complain. The first level customer service rep was extremely polite and professional. She handled the issue, getting her manager involved and they're pushing a special case up to the next level for implementation later this week... I'm going from 2GB to unlimited for the life of my contract because people here shared their personal experiences.... THANK YOU!!!

Being the nice guy, you finish last. Well, alls well that ends well?

The rep dropped the ball. It turns out that they never submitted the case to the AT&T critical care unit. I called back in, started the process again. The first critical care specialist that called refused to do anything. I asked to speak with his manager. He told me that his manager would call back in 24 hour, but when they didn't I found out why. The ICU rep had put in the notes that I asked to speak to a manager, but that I hung up on him and he closed the case. Started another (3rd) ICU case. Finally got a professional, but clearly she was in over her head as she could not approve anything to correct their problem. Having spent more than 10 hours on telephone calls with AT&T, I walked into one of the corporate stores on Tuesday, explained the situation to a manger and they handled it all within 10 minutes. She confirmed that they get tons of angry customers who have dealt with anon customer service reps that have no accountability.

Anyway.... UNLIMITED DATA 4G LTE restored! YEAH!!!

The way it works is that you are grandfathered into the unlimited data plan. However, there is a loophole that is in ATT's favor. They slow down (throttle) your conection after 2GB. Because they are still providing you with unlimited data this is legal.

just do *data# and it will tell u howmuch data u have used out of your alotted amount

if u have unlimited it will say so

Everyone I've seen that has reported throttling have been saying 5+ gb before being throttled.

Interestingly enough,I read a report last night that people with the iPhone 4s are going over their data caps because of siri. I see this as a possible return of unlimited or at least higher capped plans.

Unlimited means jack $hit, today I got throttled at 2gb of usage and there's nothing I can do about it besides jumping ship. Oh I still get "unlimited data" according to a rep but now it's at a laughable speed. Go AT&T for keeping your customers happy.

exactly my thoughts in the earlier comments here. there is no point in fighting for unlim. plan.

I got the skyrocket this morning. And made it explicitly clear that I need to keep my unlimited data($30).

Same here. I was paranoid that I might got screwed (losing my unlimited data plan) when switched from iPhone to Skyrocket so I chatted (so I can have a record of the conversation) with AT&T sales rep to make sure I can keep the existing plan. The rep assured me and told me to bring the phone to an AT&T store when I activate it which I did and repeated told the staff who helped me to activate the phone that I want to keep my current data plan. Guess what? after all these trouble they still managed to switch me to the 200MB plan (which is the plan I was told to choose when I bought the phone, as there is simply no other choice to choose when I bought the phone online--.had to because of the $9.99 refurb deal online). After I found this out the next day (after the activation), I called customer support to ask to reinstate it.
Maybe I am reading too much into this, but I have the feeling that they are bending backwards to squeeze people out of the unlimited plan. Not after I repeatedly told them that I want to keep the unlimited plan.

When I went to "Manage Features" in my online account it showed 6 different tiered LTE plans, but none of them were bubbled in. It did not show the unlimited plan that would be bubbled in.
When I went into managed features, and clicked on "View all included features" the first thing listed was:
LTE UNL SMT THRL $30.00.

I've got the same codes for my "include features". After checking with AT&T tech support, found out they mean "Unlimited (UNL) LTE data for Smartphone (SMT) which throttles (THRL) after 5GB"
