Please help with adware problem

To be fair to ES File Explorer, I reinstalled it to see what happens. So far no issues. Pretty sure AppLock Pro was the culprit. Will report back if I find out otherwise.

Re: Please help with aware problem

I responded to the insinuation of that life on Android is like that, like a fact. No, it isn't. I've had Android phones for about 6 years now and just had something similar once, just after installing ES File Explorer, hence my recommendation.

Even when the app is on the Play Store, you should read user reviews before installing anything, most apps and basically all well known apps doesn't do that, but when you move to download apps for Video or MP3 downloading, or any shady app easily recognized by its bad layouts and interface, and a lot of the Root needed apps, then you open yourself for this kind of things.

I agree with you totally that the user should do their homework before installing anything. The Play Store is not all sweetness and light and on multiple occasions, disingenuous apps have filtered through.

But I do think that life on Android is like that though. The fact that you haven't experienced this is awesome but doesn't detract from the fact that others have, myself included. I've never rooted my main devices, nor do I ever sideload apps from anywhere. All my apps are alleged 'tried and tested' straight from the Play Store, yet I've still seen this push ad issue first-hand too. Android is like the wild frontier. More freedom but that freedom comes with a price, and that price is that far more vigilance is required by the end user than with an Apple device. To be sure, I learned my lesson pretty quick and now comb through the fine print on each app before I install it, regardless of whether it is from a reputable company or not.

Again, to agree with you, the user should really do their homework before installing an app to make sure the permissions it requires aren't onerous. Usually, I also Google the app in question to see if other users have experienced any kind of issues with it too. Once bitten, twice shy.

As it turns out, it wasn't even anything I downloaded. It was on the phone, either pre-installed, or from DT Ignite, or who knows where else. Google Play Store does not have it in my list of downloaded apps, and I never installed anything from anywhere else. ES File Explorer Pro does not seem to causing me an issue.

Also, glad to hear from long time Android users who have never experienced anything like this. Hopefully these things are not as common as it seemed.

I think you'll be good once you get used to it. I've been on Android since the DroidX back in 2010 and used to root/flash custom roms like crazy and never had a hijack like you did. I think you just got terribly unlucky.

Verizon seems so dodgy with this DTignite thing lol. Is this a verizon problem or is it a note 7 with verizon problem?

Looks like Verizon's answer to t-mobile's growth is to help them lol.

Thank you Sandra - Yes, that is the exact problem. I think I found the culprit. An App called Applock Pro. I'm quite sure it came pre-installed. I think I only tapped on it to open and see what it is, and it started its dirty work. It's by "Go Dev Team". There are a bunch of apps doing this, and most seem to have the word GO in there somewhere. Any of you Verizon users here have that one on your phone?

I had the same problem on my galaxy note 7 before installing anything, not sure if it was Verizon or Samsung but an update downloaded app lock pro and dg ignite and that's where the problem is coming from
