please help with navigation

Hi. Having issues with the google turn by turn voice navigation suddenly. Tried to use it multiple times this weekend and it just keeps saying searching for GPS even though my GPS is on? Anyone have this issue? Vzw was no help. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Where you in an area in which you have had a successful GPS lock in the past? Where you outside? Have you installed any ROMs or something like that lately?

its happened to me twice. One time I just sat and waited and it finally found the gps signal after like 5 minutes. Another it still didnt catch the signal after more then 6 minutes. Im not sure if this helped or if it was just coincidence but i dialed *228 to update roaming or whatever to give it a try and honestly it has worked very snappy since. Give that a try

I'd suggest:

1. Turn GPS off and then on. If that doesn't help:
2. Power cycle the Droid or pull the battery. If that doesn't help:
3. Try *228 and reactivate. GPS on the Droid is assisted so it does rely on Verizon's network for Ephemeris data, IIRC.

This has been happening to me a lot lately. but it normally takes more than 5 - 6 minutes. So I tend to give up.

What exactly does dialing *228 do to help?
