Hi everyone,

I messed something up on my DX and all I see is the Moto Logo. I was adding a ROM for the first time and I fouled something up very badly!

Here is what happened:
Z4Rooted my phone, Ti Backup, downloaded Bootstrapper, followed the steps to put a ROM on my phone. Apex 1.4.1 on my SD card. I had the phone running Apex which was pretty neat.

I went to reload my App/data with Titanium (free version), and after loading a few apps I realized it would take me hours just to get everything back. I thought Bootstrapper could quickly reload my apps and settings.

I restarted using bootstrapper and used the restore function with the backup I made before loading the ROM. I thought this would restore my apps and seetings, but I have a feeling it did something like try to restore a motoblur system on top of ApeX? I do not know.

From here my phone showed the M logo for several minutes ~15-20. I did a battery pull, but nothing changed. I pulled again a few minutes later and held power & Home and I get an exclamation in a triangle next to an android character. Pressing the search key brings up a menu labeled: Android System recovery <3e>

I get four options:
1. Reboot system now - Tried this multiple times
2. Apply sdcard: update.zip - I get an error when I do this
3. Wipe data/ factory reset - done this a few times to no avail
4. wipe cache partition - Also, done this with no improvement.

at the bottom it reads: E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command

What do I need to do to fix this? I would guess something to do with update.zip, but I really do not want to brick my phone with more 3rd party software (maderstcok). is there a Moto update.zip file I can use? Please, please help me fix my phone. I have no idea what to do, and any help would be extremely appreciated.

Best,

Stu

Choose the Wipe Data and Cache option in the recovery screen. You weren't supposed to do a Restore from your stock rom to a custom rom.

After wiping data and cache, select Reboot. Everything will be ok.

After you have your device rebooted, use Titanium Backup's batch restore function for apps and app data only. The only System data you can restore are you minor things like browser bookmarks, bluetooth pairing settings, and some email and messages data.

xliderider,

I appreciate your speedy response to my post. I have done the wipe data/cache then reboot steps a few times now and all I ever get is the M logo. Should the M logo sit on my screen for more than ~10 minutes?

any other suggestions if the M Logo should not last for more than a minute or so?

Try powering on while holding the power and home buttons at the same time. You should get the Droid guy and a triangle. Once you get this press the search button.

what is the difference between bootloader and android recovery?

I get to android system recover <3e> by holding Power and Home

I get to bootloader by holding power, volume down, and camera button.

Can I load maderstcok340.zip from android system recovery <3e>?
OR
Should I full SBF?

which is safer?

That is Stock recovery, you can't use Maderstock.zip from stock recovery, only Clockwork Mod Recovery. You have to sbf your phone, it needs to be in bootloader to be detected by rsd lite.

This is going to sound weird, but can I check my DX's battery level with Bootloader, Android System Recovery <3e>, RSD Lite v4.9, or any other software?

I am ready to SBF, but the walk through said I need to have at least 80% battery to do this. I really do not want to brick my phone because my battery didn't have enough juice.

I bought a $10 PoS battery charger in Chinatown, but I do not trust it. The full charge light has not come on and it has been in the wall for 5+ hours.

Thoughts?

The battery will not charge in a device without a bootable operating system, like your phone is now. Unfortunately, the longer you wait, the lower your batteries charge will get.

I did the same thing once, in the instructions for installing do not format system, just wipe/factory reset, when you tell it to install zip it will format the system on its own and finishinstalling the Rom.

Anyways flash the sbf and you should be good.

Success! Thank you all!

Besides all this great advice I would have to say the not panicking, patience and the external battery charger were my life savers. I am surprised there aren't more on the market.

everyone have a marvelous Friday!
