Please support this thread regarding the RAZR

I dont want a RAZR. I want the bionic I bought to stop blacking out on me. I love the phone when it works, but going extened periods of time with the phone locked up without knowing it is unacceptable. If I have to get another phone, it sure as heck wont be a Moto unless the do something to attempt to fix the problem. Who is to say the RAZR wont have the same problem?

Done.

I am not sure that I want a RAZR either, but I am disappointed about the lack of choice, and I at least want the option. That is noted in my post. A copy of which is below:

From Moto site:

Agreed. I understand that there is always a better phone coming down the pike. But the fact is that the Bionic was advertised as the new "flagship" phone, and required a very substantial investment. Add in the extended battery, cases, scratch protection, car accessories, home accessories, and insurance, and I am one of many customers who has made a huge investment in this phone.

It has its bugs, but it is still a phone I support.

However, what I am truly upset about was the fact that I was not given the choice. There was no prior release information from Motorola which would have let me make an informed, intelligent decision on which of two leading-edge phones I would prefer to buy before the holiday.

Instead, I feel that Motorola specifically withheld any relevant RAZR release information which would have potentially influenced my decision to invest in the Bionic when I did.

As such, I think that Motorola should offer the option of an exchange of the Bionic for the RAZR once it is released, as well as a 1-for-1 exchange of all Motorola accessories purchased for the Bionic. If a company is going to deliberately hide choice from customers in an attempt to boost a specific device's sales, they should at least offer those loyal customers that same choice later.

Let me put it this way. Full disclosure I am a 20 year Trial Attorney.

Motorola and Verizon originally slated the Bionic for early 2011 and delayed it due to problems.

Then they announced it 6-8 weeks ago and said it was the machine to rule all machines, it was the flagship phone, etc..

I had patiently been waiting to upgrade my OG Droid for months waiting for the release of the Bionic. I suffered with a phone that was barely keeping a charge and where I had to have it in a charger nearly all the time. But I knew I would be getting the best so I waited.

Logically in the 6-8 months of delay for the Bionic I had assumed they were making it the best device they could. The thinnest, the fastest, the best screen, the best camera, the best body, etc...

Then I got it. I was very happy with it however it was a mystery to me why it had so many problems after 6-8 months of refinement. It's very clear to me NOW that there hadn't been that much refinement because Motorola was working on the RAZR.

The Bionic creaks because it has a cheap plastic back. I had to put electrical tape on the inside back to stop it. Even my old Droid had a steel back.

6 weeks later out comes a phone that has a Kevlar back and is being advertised as basically waterproof and almost impossible to break. Why wasn't this on the Bionic?

The camera software in the Bionic was programmed by a monkey. No I'm not saying the person who programmed it was as intelligent as a monkey I'm saying I think you had an actual monkey do it.

6 weeks later the RAZR is boasting of it's camera improvements.

You gave us a Pentile screen when it is now obvious you could have given us the same screen as the RAZR.

We cannot move things to the external SD card using your own software because it moves it to the media area just to vanish. There is NO WAY if this was tested someone wouldn't have caught it.

You add software like Social Location that's worse than any malware anyone can put on a phone.

Clearly the Bionic was the ugly stepchild. I could go on and on with my list. Why doesn't the 3g/4g radio go off when wi-fi is on?

So today we learn that not only could you build a more powerful phone but you could do it and make it the smallest thinest most durable phone that exists. And to our shock and suprise you were able to put a faster dual processer in it and still have 4g LTE and all of the goodies and more that the Bionic has.

THE BIONIC SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN RELEASED. Clearly you already had a phone READY to be sold that was better. This is not a case where you didn't know you were about to release a better phone - clearly you had finished the RAZR when you released the Bionic.

This is deception, fraud, blah blah blah.

No, I'm not suing anyone. However out of all the Bionics you sold you do have a group of people like me who are smart phone enthusiasts who are upset and should get to exchange their hardware if they wish after the RAZR comes out.

Look at it this way - you can exchange 100 or 1000 of them or someone out there may file a class action and you will have a much bigger problem. Once again I'm not filing anything - I'm not that type of attorney nor would I sue over a phone.

My recommendation would be to exchange the phone and the hardware that was bought with it for those who ask. Put a time limit on it of a month after the RAZR is released. That way you satisfy your customers and get rid of any future liability you may have.

But can you honestly say that you didn't know that we'd be pissed off when you released the RAZR 6 weeks after the Bionic? It's not like it was another company - you KNEW

While I agree with you in most of that, do you honestly think Motorola will allow us to switch our bionics for a new Razr? That's just not going to happen.

Agreed, but be careful. There are a lot of angry posters lurking who are going to attack you for drawing attention to the stunt Moto pulled.

When I bought the Bionic, IMHO, it was the best LTE Android smartphone on the market I could get. I knew that something better would be out around the corner.

The Razor looks to be a better phone. Am I upset.....not really as my Bionic will serve me well.

I will probably upgrade in 6 or so months, and I hope there are many choices out there for me to choose from.

There really is nothing wrong with my Bionic, and it will fit my needs. So, to make a long story short, I'm not mad that Moto released the Razor so soon.

His does you being a trial attorney mean anything? You going to sue Motorola for allowing you to pick your phone and buy your phone at your choice and in your time? What are you going to sue them for? Making money? Innovating new product? Research and devoplment?

At least if you are going to complain about the razr, complain that they named this phone the same as a phone from 5 years ago.

The point is that the same company already had a better phone ready to go and released the Bionic without telling anyone.

We're not talking different companies here we're talking the same one.

And how do you think this will affect sales of the Bionic? People will drool over the RAZR and ignore the Bionic.

The point is we were led to believe the Bionic was Moto's latest and greatest - well worth the top dollar price that easily soared to $500 with accessory pack and taxes. Come on! How can you shell out those kinds of dollars in this economy and NOT be pissed that Moto launches an even BETTER "flagship" phone SIX WEEKS after the Bionic??

It's not a matter of being "satisfied" with the Bionic. If that were the case, I would still be satisfied with my Droid X - it made phone calls, fetched email, did text messaging and had a good variety of apps avaiable. The point here is the dollars were spent to get the latest from Moto... not to stuff their bottom line as they launch a theoretically superior phone a mere six weeks later. IMO, it sure seems were scammed and I will never consider another Moto phone again... ever!!!!!

How did moto pull a stunt? All the manufacturers are putting out phones at breakneck speeds. I suppose when ctia rolls around in a couple of months and moto introduces a 4.8 inch razr hd, with a 2ghz quad core, you should get one of those free too! Give me a break!

It's been about 6 weeks since the Bionic release. If a company is trying to sell me a product that it says is awesome and the best then releases a better product about a month later than that's just wrong. For something as long and complicated as a smart phone they knew what they had when they were selling people the Bionic. Given the option, which they could have done, most people would of held out for the RAZR as my company of 30 or so Bionics would have. Bad move by Moto. Like others are saying and you can't seem to understand is of course there are better phones coming out, but not in about a month from the same company.

BTW i love my Bionic but dislike what Moto has done.

I dont know about outright switching, maybe as an insurance replacement, maybe. I kinda agree with the OP about this phone coming out so soon tho. Moto shoulda just skipped the Bionic and released this.

What was a few more weeks?

Some ppl might not remember Apple caving when they dropped the price of one of the iPhones a couple of months after it launched and ppl were upset. They gave ppl $100 store credits.

Maybe Moto might cave. I dont know. But I would feel some type of way about another similar phone from Moto so soon. They shoulda just released the Bionic in Feb, Mar or scrapped it all together and just went with the RAZR and called it the Bionic.

I'm just not following the "logic" of this whole thing. Why are people upset? would you be happy if Moto would have released the phone back in May and you would have had six months of a phone so buggy it would make the T-bolt look like a Jesus phone? Would you be happy if Moto just stopped developing phones so Bionic would be king for longer? Would you be happy if they had developed the Razr, but held onto it until other manufacturers released superior phones so we could have a phone with "last year's tech" Should Moto have announced the Bionic but said "Don't buy this yet cuz we're working on something else and you might like the new thing better"
It really seems like people just want to complain no matter how little sense their complaints actually make.

Agree with the sentiment here. The cost to Moto would be minimal compared to the goodwill they would generate. Most wouldn't bother, but the option would be huge!

Moto was not "working" on the RAZR when the Bionic came out - it was DONE.

I totally agree - RAZR is not nearly as cool as Bionic. They should have just used the Bionic name and the RAZR phone.

If they had done that people would have creamed over it.

I now think the number of times the guru op has posted that he made a controversy in his post to make people argue.

I have a bionic. You have a bionic. We both are not going to pay full price to disconnect and reconnect new phones. Might as well get comfy in your angry state... 4g is extremely young and a many a phone will beat the bionic over the next two years. We are kinda stuck with that as a fact. The other fact is you can buy a phone at full price when ever you want. I might even do that for fun one day. Enjoy what you have we could all be back on blackberry curves or pearls.
