Pocket Answering and Ignoring

I've searched and seen others with this issue, but never have really seen a solution as of yet.

I picked up an EVO for my wife last Friday. She absolutely loves it, with one major exception. She likes to (well, would like to) keep the phone in her front pocket -- the problem is when it rings any attempt to pull the phone out of her pocket results in the phone either answering the call or ignoring the call (no matter which orientation the phone is in).

I've seen other people point to "Call Confirm" and that only stops (or limits) "butt dialing". I've seen mention to "Lock 2.0" as well, but do not see that this solves the problem, only adds a "swipe to unlock".

First question: Is this on HTC's radar at all? Fix in a future update?

Second question: Does "Lock 2.0" really solve this issue? Just wondering if your screen is locked (and in the pocket) when an incoming call rings, does it go to the "swipe to unlock" screen, or does it go straight to the swipe down/up to answer/ignore?

Did you try using a lock code? I'm not sure if that triggers during a call or not, but I imagine that would keep it from automatically answering.

How is she putting the phone in her pocket? Upside down?

The swipe to answer is at the bottom of the screen; when I pull the phone out of my pocket, I only hold the top, which doesn't cause it to answer or ignore.

There are some programs that replace the stock sense unlock (slide up or down) with an Android or iPhone style one (slide sideways). I'm not sure what, if any, effect these have on answering calls, but they might be worth a shot.

This is going to sound strange, but there are 4 ways to put the EVO in your pocket:

1) Screen facing leg, bottom up.
2) Screen facing leg, top up.
3) Screen facing out, bottom up.
4) Screen facing out, top up.

Now, the first two, it doesn't matter just sliding the phone out with the touch screen against your leg registers as a drag, so #1 will answer the call and #2 will ignore the call. (You can demonstrate this quite easy: lock the screen call the phone and slide it on your pants leg without touching the touch screen, and the call will be answered or ignored.

#3, if you place a finger on the touch screen and one on the back, it is super easy to answer the call by accident pulling it out of your pocket as it will register as a downward swipe near the bottom of the screen.

#4 appears to be the only one that make reliably work, but it just seems strange to me.

I've been a Pre user for almost a year and keep my phone in my pocket all the time and there is an unlock screen that pops up before answering a call. With my wife's EVO is appears as though even if the phone is locked you can answer the call without unlocking the phone first.

I have answered the phone or ignored calls while pulling it out of my pocket too... The screen is big and this never happens when it is laying on my desk or out on the counter. Only when I am trying to pull it out of my pocket... She (like I assume I am doing) is ever so lightly swiping the screen just enough to answer or ignore the call....

Most of the time I carry my phone in either my back jean pocket or front jean pocket... I typically point the screen towards my leg with the top of the phone facing down. It's also possible that her leg is causing the phone to answer just rubbing around in her pocket. I know using a some what thin piece of cloth (the ones that come with the screen protectors) will cause slide action on the touch screen even though I am not physically touching the screen with my finger but trying to clean the screen. the material used in pockets are pretty thin so when it rings her leg could by accident cause what the phone thinks is "Slide to answer or Ignore"

The difference with the Pre is that the slide to unlock used the little circle opposed to the big bar that spans the entire Evo screen so you were less likely to accidentally activate it. Plus the Pre's screen was a bit less sensitive it seems as well.

So I would think Lock 2.0 would work out for your wife as it allows smaller icons for unlocking and the horizontal slider.

I have the same problem with my Evo. From the start of the day in heat, my jeans get a bit sweaty and when the phone rings, I don't even need to try and pick the phone out of my pocket. Just moving my leg will cause the phone to ignore almost all of my calls. Gets very annoying. Love the phone, coming from BB, but if I can't even use the device as a phone - what's the point? I will try lock 2.0, but if anyone else has any suggestions, please let us know. Great screen and love android, but just a glorified answering machine during the day.

Having the same problem also. If someone would develop something that requires a long press to answer calls, that may solve the swipe answering problem.

Ok, think I finally found an app that will work. Screen Suite. Costs $1.99, but so far so good. Tried lock 2.0 and no lock, neither worked. Screen suite was the only lock that still showed up when the phone rang. It's a side swipe iphone style. You can try the trial version for two days, then need to purchase. Crossing my fingers that it keeps working, but so far has made my $200 phone actually useable and not wanting to throw it against the wall. Good luck all, if you find any other working solutions, please let us know.

I'd like to get an unlock screen where you slide to unlock using a circular motion. Like swiping an upside down U or something. Anyone ever heard of that? Seems like it would solve the TC's problem too.

Yeah Lock 2.0 was a no go -- funny how when the phone is "locked" and a phone call comes in it goes right to the "Answer/Decline" options -- so much for a locked phone, huh?

I will try Screen Suite out and see what its like, thanks!!

Just checked Screen Suite out, and it is ... well, sweet!! Works like a charm. I guess I just don't understand why more screen locks do not stay locked on incoming calls.

Has ANYONE found an answer to my phone NOT answering incoming calls when in my pocket ... This is getting annoying ... Everytime I reach into my back pocket to see who is calling I realize that It has already answered the call .. I downloaded the " call confirm" app so no out going calls are made by my *** but this pocket answering has got to stop ... The Lock Screens are a joke ALL OF THEM allows ALL incoming calls right through ... I have a EVO 4g ... Please Help.

Did you read all the answers above your post?

Yes ... I did ... And Been following this thread since day 1 as well as OTHER threads ... Did you have any suggestions or did you just felt compelled to say nothing.

Well there are post above where people got their problems solved from certain apps after the correct setting were made. Would you care to explain why those said options that worked for other people didn't help you and your problem. Or would you prefer to stay vague and not explain why other proven options didn't work for you?

Ive tried all of the above apps and and if you read through the post they dont solve all the issues I am having ... They solve one or another issue but NOT all .

Example:

System " Lock Code " : Still Allows all incoming calls to bypass the lock and can pocket answer.

Lock 2.0 & No Lock : does the exact same thing as the above method .

Screen Suite : I can't remember what issues i had with it but it must have failed with me also because I didnt upgrade once the 2 day trial was up .

There has to be another/ better method in this issue ... its always the small things that developers overlook that makes the biggest difference ... Again if you or anyone else has an alternative method please let me know.

:mad: Same city I take it, same prob for me!!!!

and since I work outdoors at times in 99* heat, I have only one option, to try the same solution you did...

Ok, think I finally found an app that will work. Screen Suite. Costs $1.99
