Pocketnow review

Ugh, Pocketnow. The guy seems good, but it's just biased. Also, I remember how he was testing out a G1 running Froyo and it seemed like he was bragging about how they made it and it was such hard work, but they made it, etc.

i agree, clearly biased against it. Pocketnow did a good fair review on the Evo that I figured the Epic would be another fair balanced review.... WRONG! the reviewer needs to go back to his iphone 4 and droid 2 IMO.

I thought it was a good review. Sprint software is rarely highly rated, especially the TV app.

4/5 is not bad, and judging from the software (touchwiz without all the perks, TV out, etc.) and hardware complaints (capacative buttons) on this board, it seems fair.

The phone is not perfect, but its still something that most reviewers recommend.

There is TV-Out support, don't get confused, but it's not in the settings yet (check the Epic system dump). I swear, those capacitative buttons must be treated like a resistive touchscreen: press on them, don't just tap 'em.

How do these guys even become reviewers?! I mean, c'mon! Most of the people here at the forum are more than capable of conducting an excellent review, but who gets to review phones early? People like this!:(

Yeah taking that long to show us Football, Sprint TV, Sprint Navigation, Nascar? NONE of that is exclusive to Epic by the way... Not knowing the difference between Sprint Navigation and Google Maps and Google Navigation is embarrassing. The guy should lose his rights to do early reviews IMHO.

How DID he get to be on the early review program anyway?

I don't know that he was biased- he's not a fan of sprint apps- and last time I checked- neither were MOST sprint subscribers. He did mention the samsung software and hardware he gives a 4/5. Sounds plenty fair...

I just don't know anyone WHO gives a hang about 90% of the things he covered in that software video.

I was impressed with his HD video test only from the aspect of how well AUDIO was captured. The autofocus seemed a bit slow and soft overall- but better than what I've been used to.

Hmm, maybe biased wasn't correct. Unawareness is though. He's on a vague scale (an out of 5 scale), but had it been more (like an out of 100 scales) and had he'd marked it down based on his incorrect statements, then that would have been a problem.

I mean, he's right about how the Football app shouldn't take so long to load - side note: can we watch football games on that app?

And he's right that Sprint Nav takes way too long to load

And he's right that Sprint TV should work over wifi. And should play in higher def if that happens.

Those were apps I was moderately interested in...

Also, he kept pressing that back button like an r-tard. He was poking it with the smallest part of his finger and kept missing. Soon as he actually hit the backlit area it worked. I'm not concerned about the sensitivity of the buttons.

Ok so it wasn't just me who thought that!? TOUCH the screen people- don't POKE/tap. Capacitive needs heat correct? Just how warm is his fingernail anyway?

Also showed that You can adjust brightness. I believe someone on the boards said it is not an option for the epic

Actually, I thought it was a pretty decent review.

The capacitive button issue is the only thing at this point that's making me leery....

Samsung and sprint must see this as an issue?????????????????????????

I didn't think the review was have bad. There were some good amount of info IMO. He complained about the loading logo on the football and nascar apps. But its unique to the app which was cool. i dont use them but if you do then you would. All carriers put there on apps on their phones. Its business. I personally use sprint nav. I have the pre and tryed the google maps. its more like looking at a map . now unless it is different on Android phones. when I drive I need gps not a map. the loading time ti wasnt that bad. a few seconds, no ones in that much is a rush that they need it to turn on instently. remember you still need to put in the address.

Anyway as a reminder 6 MORE DAYS LEFT...YEA

Nope, verizon got that this year when NFL app left sprint and went to vzw. Taking that into consideration, I think the app is better than what it used to be when it was NFL.

I found out yesterday that you don't TAP the button, you either press it or you swipe it down. These capacitive buttons are more like resistive. You have to press to receive feedback.

Honestly, I think this was a good move on Samsung's part. The iPhone only had one button to go back, so playing a game wasn't a problem, but here, we have 4 buttons, so if you're writing an email or playing a game, or whatever, you could accidentally press the back button and your progress would be lost. Nexus One users had the same "issue" and they got used to it, we have the same issue, we will get used to it.

Review was terrible he was all over the place dogging sprint apps, Sprint service - download/upload speeds off the wall stuff.

Until it's officially implemented I'd say it does not include TV out. Unlike some of us, at the time of purchase a lot of people buy a phone for what it is not what it could be.
