Pokemon Go App Lagging and Freezing

I downloaded this game so I could get my grandson off of the couch and get some physical activity. I have noticed that this app freezes up and lags often on my LG Nexus 5X. My wife's iPhone6+ picks up the Pokemon faster does not have these lagging and freezing issues. Anyone else experiencing this on their 5X? I am on the T-Mobile network and my wife stayed with Sprint.

Did you make a separate user for your grandson on your 5x? Also, can you turn the AR off? That's not necessary to enjoy the game.

I use my own account on my 5X and he uses my wife's acccount on her 6+. She has insurance on her phone and I do not. Thus, he uses her phone due to the possibility of lacking focus and dropping it.

Ah, sorry to confuse the users.

Yes, Augmented Reality. The whole, "camera open and showing the pokemon in your world" aspect of the game. That's a huge processing hog. You can toggle that in the upper right hand corner when you're trying to capture a pokemon.

Also, are you using any RAM optimizer or process cleaner?

As for your grandson being able to find them sooner - that's phone-to-phone. My buddy and I have two different Android phones and they aren't consistent. I think it just depends on the location accuracy and speed.
