Poor App Drawer Performance

I don't understand it. I've had bad experiences with the app drawer since the first day I got the phone, and I still have the same problems rooted and having tried several different ROMs. Whether it's stuttering when opening the app drawer or terrible lag between screens, it's always there to some degree.

Could it be a problem with the hardware? I've asked around and no one seems to have the same issues as I do. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have a Live Wallpaper running? My app drawer and home screen scrolling was slow with a Live Wallpaper. Changed to a static image, smooth as butter.

I'm afraid it might be ICS itself. My Nexus S has the same problem - not that it has major lag/stuttering, but it is definitely noticeable compared to the stock Gingerbread launcher. You can either try a stock-based launcher like Nova or Trebuchet, or just go 3rd party and get something like ADW EX.

Have you tried running any different kernels to see if you get smoother performance? I have had good performance from imoseyon's leankernel, franco's kernel, and now I am trying out trinity inferno 512 which has the GPU overclocked.

It may help to lower the transition and window animation scale in developer options to either .5 or off and see if that helps at all. Changing this seems to make things a little snappier.

Yes, I've tried different kernels and they do seem to help a bit, but they don't completely eliminate the stuttering. It's not a huge deal, but it is very noticeable.

I don't have the same selection of kernels as you since I'm on a Nexus S, but yes I have noticed that kernel type and settings can make a huge difference. Right now I'm using Steve Garon's kernel, which actually borrows Franco's Conservative governor and a couple other tweaks. With my governor set to Franco's tweaked Conservative governor, CFQ set as the scheduler, a slight CPU and bus overclock (+10%), and GPU rendering forced under developer options, I've gotten rid of virtually all lag ~80% of the time. I still occasionally get a slowdown here or there, but I'm very happy with it as of now. Oh and I'm on CM9, but AOKP was just as fast when I was using it. YMMV :)

the only thing I've found that helps is opening the app drawer and scrolling through all of the widgets to allow them to load or populate. this took care of the lag for me. granted, this will have to be done every time the launcher restarts or when the phone is rebooted.
