with wifi enabled. will have second results with wifi disabled... but i believe i have an issue with my battery. Everything I have read says I should be getting twice the life of what I am geting. Over the weekend, without wifi enabled and screen turned all the way to about 25%, I'm still struggling to get 8-12 hours of battery life with what I would describe as mild use. Thoughts?

What apps are you running? Also, how close are you to the nearest cell tower? If you are a ways away from it or have a weak signal the phone will boost the power on the radio to maintain contact. There are certain stores that are frickin' Faraday cages and will drain my phone like crazy if I am not careful to turn my phone onto airplane mode.

What is your screen on time? You shouldn't expect more than 4 hours.

Screen on time honestly depends on the user. I usually get 2 1/2 hrs maybe 3 of screen on time cause im just constantly on my phone. I never use 4g unless I can't get a WiFi connection lol..but yesterday I got close to 18 hours with some semi heavy usage.

I just noticed you have WiFi calling enabled. That's the issue..there should be a software update coming soon for that...so I hear

tower is about 10 minutes away. Not line of sight, but still strong. I get 3-4 bars depending on where I go in my house.

Side question, how do you lower it to 3g only? All I see is 2g or 4g.

wifi was enabled for that yes. It has been disabled yesterday and today (weekend) and i'll run another test tomorrow to match the same scenario as the test above.

I'm also comparing all this to my wife's myTouch 4g slide, which should be using more power than my phone. Currently it is not.

I also downloaded a few apps to help me see the discharge in %. One app shows per minute and the other shows per hour (and averages it up between charges).

I'm getting 10.11% per hour discharge at the moment. I have watched a short 5 minute video, spent about 15 minutes total on facebook and same for browser, 43minutes onscreen time, most of this was tower use... about an hour (out of 2 hours) was on wifi, most of that time with the screen turned off. no bluetooth or gps enabled. Phone idle for 1h 24min. I'm currently at 79% battery left.

To me that is just way to much drain for very little use.

I just got 6 hours and some odd minutes on a FULL CHARGE with just 2hrs and 30-40min of screen on, 16 minutes of monopoly game, phone awake for 4hours and some odd minutes and a 3 minute phone call.

WTF??

This was the wifi calling disable test. I didnt even make it back to my home to use wifi.

Also, why is MAPS always a recently used app?

"no bluetooth, gps, wifi enabled (when away from the house) and screen set to auto, used mostly in florescent lighting. NO big file downloads or uploads.

I found a new app called battery analyzer. It says I am discharging 12% every hour on average (for the last two days). Battery widget says I am discharging 1% every 2 minutes.

Oh and the kicker... after I unplugged the phone, but before I even turned on the display to use it, I had discharged 5% in 15 minutes. That seems way to excessive.

Pictures to come soon. Have to charge my phone up so I can upload the screen shots.

I have noticed that if I have WiFi on (wifi calling disabled) then my battery drains fast! And even faster when i forget to turn wifi off when I leave the house. I hope that "update" they said will be available soon will fix this. I don't use wifi calling.

Yes I think having wifi on DOES drain the battery faster than the tower... which goes against logic. However, I could see how it might drain faster as I get download speeds of around 20MB/s with my wifi... therefor more data is being downloaded. just a thought.

so as it turns out, all the location based services were enabled.

I think the location crude enabled (thanks to the Tmobile store rep that proceeded in setting up my phone for me even though I didnt ask them to) helped out. I just used the phone for an hour, under very heavy use downloading music, streaming music through bluetooth, playing monopoly game and It is 'only' discharging the battery at a rate of a % per 2-3 minutes. Display was on the whole time and I discharged only 25% of the battery.

I'll have to wait until tomorrow to try to give the test the same rundown as earlier.

I always use WiFi on my one s and I get good battery. I had to use 4g for GPS couple days ago and it ate mybattery up!!! Lol

Try setting your screen brightness to 25%-30%. I'm pretty sure the auto brightness feature eats up battery too...adjusting brightness levels all day long..

I got down to 33% after 8 hrs. My screen time on was 2h 39m. with 33 min of calls. I am a heavy texter as well. This was while connected to wi-fi with the wi-fi calling enabled. I'm not sure if that's good or bad. I do know about the wi-fi calling issue. So should I be concerned about battery life?

I think I fixed the problem... as mentioned before, I turned off carrier IQ and turned off all google 'follow me' features as that was causing my maps application to be 'on' the entire time thus causing it to be in my recent applications section... thus draining my battery.

Halfway through the day, im at 59% 5hours 2 minutes since unplugging the phone from the wall. Display time is at 1 hour. I'm currently discharging 1% every 7 minutes and about 11% every hour. The app says I have about 6 hours left which would put it about 11 hours.

That is the current state.

Doesn't seem like much but my display is on a lot at the moment as I write this. The biggest tall tell sign was when my phone was in "sleep" mode. If I never woke my phone up, I was going to be on standby for about 3 days and in the 15minute span from the time I unplugged the phone to the time I first viewed the screen, I had only lost 1% vs yesterdays 5%.

A week later...

Getting on average 13-18 hours on a charge, with on screen time of 2.5 - 3 hours. Most of my time is in a industrial concrete building on a military base with no windows, 4g signal usually is about 2-3 bars. I do spend about 6 hours at home on wifi between charges.

Best of all, According to My Battery Drain Analyzer app, I'm averaging 6.41% discharge per hour since my last post above (may 1st). To say the least, I am very pleased with these results.

I'm more impressed with your 4G signal from inside a concrete building! If I sit in my car in my driveway I can get 2-3 bars of 4G, but if I step into my house then it'll constantly switch between 2G and 4G. Similar thing happens at work too. If I stand outside my building I can get good 4G signal, but once I'm in my cube (top floor of a 3 story office building) it has trouble maintaining 4G at all. I found that if I walk to the edge of the floor near the break room window it has an easier time maintaining 4G, but still not great. I was under the impression Tmo's 4G was just really weak..

Almost made it to 16 hours .. Im conservative at times ... If Im not slacking off at work, it's on 2G . Wifi at all times when home .. Mobile connection is off when Im at the gym listening to music .. After two or three times of letting the battery drain completely when I first got it was when I noticed the difference ..

wont be long... tmobile just partnered with Ericsson and Nokia Siemens to help build their LTE network... they are claiming will improve HSPA+ as well... which we could see improvements this year (LTE won't be available until 2013 sources say).

That combined with the AT$T break up deal... we should see HSPA+ improve.

I always forget to turn wifi and bluetooth off (paired with my car) so I end up leaving them on through out the whole test this last week. Likewise, I have the phone set to AUTO between 2g and 4g. Still puzzled why this phone won't display 3g. Also, I have the phone on auto brightness. What I don't do is download stuff unless im on wifi or absolutely need the info (game) right that second.
