All, I need some help. I searched and couldn't find specificlly the answer.
With the new 2.2 OS my POP mail will disapear out off my phone when my home computer grabs the mail from the server and pulls it to my exchange mailbox.

Previously on version 2.1 and on my BB, if the phone recieved the email, it would store it locally so I could read and review it anytime. Now if I don't catch it before the home PC grabs it I won't see it, or if I did see it, it will disapear. I have the sync times set up very different so the phone should always get the email before the computer has a chance to grab it.

How do I get the phone to hold the messages locally even when they have been pulled from the POP server?
The server is POP.securserver.net

Please help....

I am having the same issue. As well as my mail not coming into my device when I know its in my Outlook.

In the advanced settings for your POP on the Computer, set it to "Leave copy of message on Server" and then select, delete mail off server after X days. Pick a number like 2 or 3. This will allow the phone to grab the mail before it's removed by the Computer client.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. Just made the changes on my end. Hopefully it helps.

That is a good option, thanks, I was kind of hoping I could delete the email from the phone as needed. With this option as soon as the 2-3 days (or whatever) is up, the phone will loose the message.

I will give it a try to night and experiment with duration.

Other options are welcomed...

You can also set the HTC mail client to only pull X days worth of e-mail and at the end of the time all older mail will go away on the phone. I only pull 1 day's mail since I only really use the phone e-mail as a heads up to what's going on while I'm in the field. I can make quick replies to real emergencies, but the bulk of my e-mail processing get's done on the computer.

In the mail app go to Menu -> more -> Settings -> Send & Receive -> Download Options

This way the phone does not get clagged up with old e-mail and I still get the info I need.

You are not alone...

While I understand changing the 'keep mail on server' suggestion, it didn't work this way before the OTA Froyo update. Either it's a bug in Froyo or it was a bug in 2.1 that they fixed...

I ended up creating another email address that I never download to my home computer so the emails always stay on the server. Anything I want to keep, I forward it to that email address so it will stay on the phone.

After making the changes my work emails have all been coming in perfectly fine with no issues.

PvilleComp, I don't think that will work, my time was set to 3 days. But when emails hit the phone they only stay on for 30 minutes before my home computer sync's then they disapear.

I believe that the mail client continually polls the mail server and then just emulates what is on the server.

tfalk, you are correct, it worked in 2.1 but no longer works in 2.2. They have changed something.

GooTz66, So the real question is when the mail gets removed from you mail server will the phone sync and drop the email from your phone as well, even if you have the "keep days" set to a longer duration?

These are some good work arounds, but I wish they had not changed it? I liked the way it worked in 2.1 and on my old Storm 2....

If the mail is removed from the server before it is fully downloaded on the phone then it will come back as not available, or disappear, if you try to access it and it is not on the server. Same is true if you delete a mail on the phone and not off the server - at the next sync it will re-download.

The HTC client is only downloading headers and a bit of the message by default. It has to go out to the server to get the rest. If it?s not on the server it can?t download it.

I seem to remember it behaving this way in 2.1, but I leave mail on my server for 10 days before deleting it, or delete off the server when recycle bin is emptied so perhaps I?m not a good test subject for this.

;)

I got an update pushed to my phone this morning and it appears that this issue has now been fixed. My emails no longer delete from my phone when I check email on my computer.

I have the opposite of this problem. I had my PC set to leave messages from the server until the trash was emptied and then they would automatically disappear from the phone too. I found this to be an easy way to keep the phone inbox free of some of the clutter that I get...a lot easier than individually deleting each message that I didn't want on the phone. Does anyone know of a way to "unfix" this?

Use K9 mail from the market, it works much better than stock email client and have it pull it, you can change you poll times and leave it on the server if you want to delete on device and not in email account. Works great!!!
