App badge behavior on iOS vs. Android

I'm going to switch from an iPhone 11 to a Samsung Galaxy S25. On iOS, when you get a notification and dismiss it, the app badge (the number in the red circle) stays until you open the app. Is it possible to have the same behavior on Android (specifically on One UI)?

You know that is something that has always bugged me with the default behaviour of Android notifications but I have never thought of looking for a way to change it. I too would be interested to learn.

You glance at the lock screen, see a notification and think "I can deal with that later", dismiss it then forget about it. Or don't dismiss it and keep thinking there is something new that may need immediate attention.

(I am still on an S20 running Android 13 so there may be differences from later models and OS versions)
