Getting really annoying pop-up ads ...even when trying to send text messages or even making calls...gotten REALLY bad the last month or so...Any remedies for this?

check every app installed and uninstall any unwanted app.

The worst offenders that I've seen are phone "optimizers", cleaners and antivirus / antimalware apps. If you have installed any of those, then uninstall them. Go through your entire list of installed apps to check for any that you unwittingly allowed to install.

Also you could try installing greenify which will show you all the currently running services and apps, you should be able to catch the culprit that way! Gsam battery monitor is another app that is good for detailing activity of apps.
