Pop up view and games issue in Nougat

There's a problem in the new update with games and pop-up view. Normally what would happen is I open up google chrome or reddit in popup view while playing a game and I would be able to browse them while the game running in the background. What happens in Nougat now, however, is that it freezes the game running in the background. The game wont "run" anymore. When I tap the game it resumes like it was paused and there's no graphical glitches or anything. I've tried it on multiple games and the result is consistent. Is there a setting I can change or do I just need to revert back to whatever I had before.
