portable hotspot timeout

I am very pleased with LG optimus T with Tmobile exception this stupid portable hotspot timeout "feature". I am forced to set it 5 minutes, 10 minutes or 15 minutes. Does anyone know if there is way to disable the time out? The intention was to save battery if there is no activity but seems to me the designer totally forget an important user scenario: Sitting in a hotel room, hotspot on, phone with power cord plugged and use an ipad to surf the web from time to time. Now the terrible experience is that if the ipad is idle for more than 15 minutes, the LG hotspot is automatically off. How many times do I need to manually turn it on in a few hours? Totally a hassle. I don't believe this is a Froyo feature. My other phone Huawei Comet running android 2.2 does not have the timeout on hotspot and it never turns off hotspot by itself.
