Portenzo Case

How much was the alano?

Alano pricing will vary depending on which specific style you choose, less for the basic black/dark chocolate, more for the wingtip/journal/old book/tesoro. Best bet is to go to the site, look at a case, wait about 20-30 seconds and (if they're around which during the day they generally are) open a live chat. Lea tends to be the one handling that, and she was very, very helpful.

Alano Tesoro is about $160 with 3-5 day shipping. I was told that the production of a case could take 7-10 days, and then it would ship according to which option you chose.

I took the leap last night and ordered the Alano. For those considering one from this series, also be aware that Old Book and Indiana Journal may become available again within the next several weeks (according to Lea, they are hoping to get another shipment of the leather soon). So, if you really want one of those, you may consider waiting a little while. I debated, but eventually settled on the Tesoro, which I've had my eye on since before I even knew about the N7! :-)

That Tesoro case is absolutely gorgeous, but I just can't bring myself to spend that much money on a case.

I followed this thread for a while and I'm just going to say it, if I didn't have the iBlason case I'de get one.

The Alano series is strictly a luxury - they really don't have a tangible 'performance' benefit over the standard case offering. But at $39, the standard is a fantastic deal, if you compare other similar styles out there, when factoring in general reputation of build. Just be prepared to be patient - with the demand they're seeing at initial release, and all their cases being handmade, I wouldn't be surprised to see some level of lag on production times (especially on one-offs like Alano).

Edit: Alano order page (w/ pricing) is up. There's a picture of it so you can see what it will look like in the different Alano leather options. Video is still of the different iPad models, though they indicate it'll be updated soon. Also the description isn't updated yet, but the main thing is you can now see pricing / directly place an order.

I wonder how well the portenzo's will protect the N7 compared to a otterbox commuter case?

For the little bulk added by OB's commuter series, they offer phenomenal protection, but I suspect the extra framing of the Portenzo would generally be superior, but, it has that extra bulk. Of course, I hope never to find out just how hard an impact is required to reach that tipping point ;-)

I own a Portenzo for my iPad. It offers moderate/reasonable protection. I've read that the wooden frame will break if dropped in the right way. But, assuming you aren't using your device in hazardous situations, you should be fine. My previous Portenzo has been fine for daily use and travel. It's well made and constructed so stood up to daily use well.

I actually have two Portenzos and a Dodocase. I think I will repurpose them as holders for cards and pictures, etc.--the types of things that I normally put in storage boxes.

I am not planning to drop it either but I just hope the portenzo cases are not all looks and no substance. I think I am going to pull trigger on portenzo because just looks to good.

Those of you who have ordered any shipping updates? I thought they said they'd get them out by last Friday.

Ordered my Alano midnight black case with intellistand. $119.90 shipped after the coupon code (free shipping) they gave me via the chat. After checking out the coach and cole hahn tablet cases in the store this weekend, jumping on this case for the asking price wasn't so hard.
