Possible root to try?

I'll be getting OSlider next week for my wife when it comes out.

Just wondering if Gingersnap might work on it. Any other possible root method to try?

This would be good to know. We may have to wait until a dev actually gets her or his hands on the phone before we find out, though. Either that, or some brave soul who has the money to replace the phone in case of "root bricking," so to speak, could give it a try. :p

I've tried the Gingerbreak Utility, SuperOneClick, Z4Root, at least 3 others, and multiple versions....and none of them work. :( I know this phone literally JUST came out...but really hoped rooting would be as easy as it was on the Optimus V or Triumph.

Any ideas, I will try them.

Also, just in case anyone hasn't figured out, to boot into recovery (still stock recovery)

hold down HOME + VOL DOWN + POWER all together until recovery screen appears.
Volume UP/DOWN scroll through options, and MENU confirms.

There is a root that is suppose to work for LG Esteem.

LG Esteem OneClickRoot NOW READY!! | AndroidNerds.net

Don't know if it works for Esteem or if it will work for OS. I am traveling now until next Wednesday so I can't try it until I get back home next week.

Anyone else want to try it and see if it will work?

*edit*
I took a look inside the root and it uses the new zergrush exploit which was updated couple of days ago. Looks promising.

I got this one to work on my Slider with the exceptions of the drivers they used. The tutorial's driver download doesn't seem to recognize the phone, but if you download the official drivers from the LG website (the ones listed under the Optimus V work), the exploit will recognize the phone. So far no problems after having rooted the phone.

That's a good news. Thanks for being the first. I'll try it next week when I get home.

Have you tried loading a custom recovery?

I just rooted my Slider using this process. The direct link to the drivers you need is:

http://www.lg-phones.org/wp-content/uploads/LG-Optimus-V.zip

Install the drivers then run the bat file. It's really that simple.

Side note, is anyone else getting crappy performance from Netflix on this phone?

Can someone post the backups for this phone?

Also the output of this:
in terminal type:
su
cat /proc/mtd

Thanks!

Has anyone tried to put harmonia or something like that on this yet

I don't know what that is.

Also, last night I got some significant overnight drain. I'm used to about 5% for 8 hours and it looks like it might have been around 25-30% for the same time. I wasn't actually paying close attention to the charge level though, so I could be wrong.

There is no custom ROM yet. Hopefully, we can get CM7 ported over which would be nice.

As for the battery usage, it seems about normal at 2-3% per hour for normal usage. The battery for OS is slightly bigger at 1540 mAH compared to 1500 mAH for OV. The signal strength is slightly better than OV too.

Bob, when I get a custom recovery loaded next week, I'll make a back up. Which recovery would you recommend?

Thanks! Now we just need a backup of the stock rom and maybe we can have a CM7 rom ;)

EDIT: any recovery will due...I just need a backup of the stock rom

You can make backups with that info, in terminal type:
su
dd if=/dev/mtd/mtd2 of=/sdcard/recovery.img bs=4096
dd if=/dev/mtd/mtd0 of=/sdcard/boot.img bs=4096
dd if=/dev/mtd/mtd6 of=/sdcard/system.img bs=4096

Can someone post those .img file? recovery and boot will be small, but system may be rather big.
Thanks!

Optimus Slider comes with Gingerbread and you want to downgrade to Froyo? ROMs from different phones don't work and you need custom recovery first.

Do you know if the OV battery fits into the Slider? I have a few 1600maH batteries I hope to use.

Here's the boot and recovery. Just to make sure, the system file won't show off any of my personal information, will it?
