Possible V10 Successor

Let's hope LG doesn't drop the ball again as we have all seen I like the G5 but it's just not what I expected.

After moving from the v10 to the s7 edge I'm ready to give the v20 a try. I considered picking up the note 7, but I'm not a fan of curved edges, glass build on the back and a sealed battery.

I loved the v10 except for the battery life (this was mitigated by a swappable battery) and the display quality. The newer amoled screens simply destroy LG's current offerings.

The v10 was released with an outdated chipset, but it will have at least an 820 which flies on the g5, so I don't see that being an issue.

As long as LG continues to build on all of the high end bells and whistles that made the v10 successful, I'll gladly give them my money.

Really hoping this comes out soon. Really hoping for wide camera on the front, and the back this time.

On the g4 now. Question.
V10 has a 5.7 inch screen. Does the separate screen leave only 5.5 inches for the main screen?
(assuming the v20 will follow the same pattern) my upgrade hopes are pinned on the v20.

If I were to create a spec-sheet for the V20, I'd want it to at least be close to something like this.

Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 w/ 2 + 2 Kyro cores clocked at 2.4GHz on the more powerful clusters, slightly less so on the other w/ Adreno 530 GPU
RAM: 6GB LPDDR4
Storage: 64GB/128GB UFS 2.1 internal NAND storage + hybrid microSD/UFS card slot
Display: 5.7-inch QHD AMOLED display w/ sRGB calibration mode + improved AOD. (The IPS Quantum Display can stay, but it needs to be significantly tweaked to be more color-accurate)
Build: Rubberized plastic removable back with stainless-steel rails. DuraSkin construction all-around for improved durability.
Camera: 1/2.6" 16MP sensor w/ f/1.8 aperture plus improved quality lens to reduce chromatic abberation. 4-axis OIS + improved 3-axis DIS for improved stabilization. Manual settings for photo and video. 8MP f/2.0 front camera for self-portraits.
OS: Android 6.0.1 "Marshmallow". Expected upgrade to 7.0 "Nougat" before the end of the year.
Audio: Front-firing single tweeter + bottom-firing subwoofer. 32-bit dedicated DAC + headphone amp through a 3.5mm jack. Audio tweaking options via software
Power: 4000mAh removable battery. Fast charging via USB PD on a Type-C port.

If you are going to dream... Dream big! I'm with you. A pen is not a requirement for me. But... Why not.

V10's successor only needs a significantly larger battery, a slightly better screen without bleeding and visual under sun, and finally an addition of HDR+ like nexus phones have. I know the hdr+ is an exclusive of Google phones but it would transform it to the best all around phone....

Since this thread is moving rather slowly, I'll put in my two cents. My current phone is a 505s/n G4, with a very good performing G2 as a backup. No bootloop yet, but tomorrow is another day...
I've never used a v10, so I'll have to defer to v10 owners as to its strengths and weaknesses. I have held one, and it seemed huge, so I hope the V20 has the same, or smaller footprint. Here are the things I believe the V20 has to have in order to compete:
5.5 inch screen with aod

integrated into the main display. I prefer IPS because I read a lot, but a top notch OLED would be OK.
Top of the line internals.
Excellent cameras.
Improved speakers, even if it means front facing stereo.
Bigger battery /removable & hot swappable.
SD card
No buttons on the top, front, or sides of the phone.
Excellent construction and attention to detail, doesn't need to be metal or glass.
Wireless charging backplate, either standard or as an option.
I've probably forgotten some things, but this is getting rather long...

As reported by the Verge today, the new phone will be called the V20, and it's said to be the first handset to launch with Android 7.0, otherwise known as Nougat. and confirmed September launch.

No, it's a separate 5.7 screen plus the upper screen. It's basically a 6 inch display with a small portion partitioned off as the notification area

As a G4 owner, this is intriguing me. Though I'm surprised to see the requests of an AMOLED screen. IPS has a much more accurate color reproduction than any AMOLED I've ever seen and would be an immediate deal breaker for me if that happened. Would be nice to have a stylus, but not a big issue for me.

The V10's successor should do away with LG's current Quantum Display technology or have an improved version that focuses more on better color accuracy and makes use of sRGB. The current Quantum Display iteration used in the G4, V10, and G5 are more prone than usual to image retention, the issue being present even when the device is turned on for the first time.

I agree. Small annoyance but an annoyance none the less.

COMPLETELY Happy on my V10. Its an ABSOLUTE WINNER in a landscape of monkey-see monkey-do designs.

shout out to LG... KEEP ALL V10 FEATURES BUT ADD THE FOLLOWING to the V20:

>Qi charge case back standard
>USB-C
>Snapdragon 820
>64G internal memory standard

MOST IMPORTANTLY carry over the following features:
>REMOVABLE BATTERY !!!!!... !!!!!!!!! (thicker and higher capacity would be nice)
>Headphone jack
>Volume buttons on the back
>Removable / replaceable case-back
>SD card slot
>32 bit DAC
>High impedance headphone amp circuit
>Secondary screen
>Completely button-less operation (if you so chose to operate it that way)
>Durable materials
>4K and fully manual video settings
Completely agree with everything you said and give us that 20mp camera with a newly improved sensor. Yes.

Damn it idk what to get now haha but I love my beloved V10

They should go all out beast mode and target design elements that bolster the stat and data sheets. Since they aren't going to out-hype the Apple borg collective and they won't out-style Samsung. They should try and dominate them on the spec sheets.

>64 ~128G internal memory standard, while everyone else is skimping at 32G or charging premiums for additional space.
>4000~4500 mah removable battery, with an amoled display, dominate battery run time AND offer a removable option.
>SD card slot, This is VITAL, omitting this would be a failure of monumental proportion.
>USB-C and Qi charge plastic removable case back, Nothing bad can come from this.
>Snapdragon 821, Or go with the 820 for its proven reliability
>6~8G RAM, Spec sheet dominance.

They should also offer unlocked variant of the V20.

^ This tbh. LG should go all out and knock it outta the park with bleeding edge specs. 6G ram, dual display, 4,500mah removable battery, IR blaster, fm radio, dual front and rear camera, qhd screen, 128gig storage, front stereo speakers, SD 821, USB C, 32 bit DAC, android 7.0, metal and stainless steel, micro sd card, add in a stylus with all the bells and whistles and this will be a true champion seeing as samsung has seemingly won the style championship, and apple will also win the fanboy champioships, and with Motorola having also single handedly won the modular championships, LG might as well go all out and win the specs/hardware championships too as that's still up for grabs

Except nobody is going to make a phone that great. Ergonomics or engineering, but something will have to be l3ft out of the equation. I think LG will hit a ton of those marks though. Plus I don't think specs alone will grab the respect I personally believe LG deserves. Hopefully the marketing is a huge hit for this one.

Starting with the 821 since it doesn't exist yet in any kind of usable quantities. (Though I'm all in on having at least one decent speaker on the face of the phone.)

If they just switch to an led screen, greatly improve battery life over the v10 and upgrade the camera the phone will be a beast. The v10 camera was already really good, but I'd like to see a low light, quick focus setup like I have on the s7 edge. It's pretty much the definition of what a phone camera should be. Take it out of your pocket, point and shoot.
