Possibly Bricked Phone?

I was able to flash my radio, ROM, and Kernel to DJ05. After I rebooted my phone for the first time I got to the lock screen and after I unlocked the phone the problems started.

I continuously get the "Sorry! "The application <app name> has stopped unexpectedly. Please Try Again." error message. It just seems to cycle through my apps and I cannot get passed it.

This was my first time flashing a new ROM and I'm not sure what my next steps are.

Edit: I tried to restore from a nandroid backup, but I'm stuck on the "ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.0" screen with what looks like a cigarette box with an arrow coming out of it.

you cant reflash the rom?

and if you are able to get to CMR you are not bricked

Try the fix posted by Cory in one of the stickys. It details how to get out of the force close loop. Worked for me when I was having troubles yesterday.

I'm going to give it a few more minutes before I pull the battery. I'm not sure if the phone is actually restoring or its stuck.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I have no idea what MD5 is. This morning I decided to root my phone and try to install a custom ROM. Probably too much in one afternoon :)

I'm literally just stuck on that screen referenced above with all of my keys illuminated.

No need to be embarrassed at all, i dont know what MD5 is either i just know sometimes it takes a couple of minutes for it to get past that point..... what is the last line of text at the bottom , i assume when you hit the restore nandroid that lines were scrolling at the bottom

I was just able to successfully restore (kind of). I tried to re-flash the ROM and re-flash the kernel (originally using sf 1.54 then nonvoodo) and I had even worse luck. The phone booted up with sound but no display. I restored from my nandroid backup and the phone has display/sound up to the SAMSUNG text then the display turns off.

I don't know what I did wrong to get into that force close loop. Have any of you experienced this? I flashed the radio in Odin, rebooted into recovery mode, wiped data, wiped cache, selected apply update.zip, wiped dalvik cache, flashed rom, flashed kernel, rebooted.

I have no idea what to do now since I apparently successfully restored, but my display isn't working. Looks like I might have to try Cory's guide.

wait , why did you apply update . zip instead of DJ05?

also if you have successfully loaded up DJ05 there is no boot up animation...

how about we start fresh and flash back to DI01 and start fresh?

question when you flashed the Radio did you make sure it was in PDA mode?

Here is how to get back to stock 2.1

I had to select "apply sdcard:update.zip" on the Android System Recovery screen in order to get into ClockworkMod Recovery. I didn't actually select that option when ClockworkMod Recovery was open.

I'm going to try Cory's guide to get back to DI01. Maybe this will go smoother next time. I plan on posting every single step I did and maybe someone can find out where I went wrong. Thanks for your patience.

Well I tried a nandroid restore again and it worked! I'm in the process of downloading the the Full DJ05 Odin Pack from xda. I'm assuming I just need to apply this in PDA Mode via Odin?

i havnt tried it but its either a stand alone 1 click or yeah via PDA through odin

Success! I don't plan on going any further tonight - I plan on staying on the stock DJ05 ROM until I fully understand the next steps.

Your help is what makes forums like this thrive - thanks again.

Well this has been a learning process for me today. I've gone ahead and installed the DJ05 Package, re-rooted, and restored using Titanium Backup.

I feel like this was the easier way since the package had the modem, kernel, system, and recovery. I don't plan on flashing any custom roms or kernels until the 2.2 release (fingers crossed). I'd like to get a head start considering because the learning curve is pretty high (atleast for me).

Let's just say I decided that I wanted to install JTs Super Clean ROM. I'm not sure where to start because of the "easier" method I used to install DJ05. Do I need to start with applying the CWMrecovery.tar file via Odin and selecting the "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" option in ROM Manager? Or can I simply download ROM Manager, download the ROM, and flash?

If I'm at the point of where I downloaded the ROM (via ROM Manager) to my SD card - would I simply reboot in recovery mode, wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, perform nandroid backup, select the .zip, install, and reboot?

I'm looking for a detailed step-by-step guide to flashing a ROM. I feel like I got so close today and failed. In the future (2.2) I'd like to be able to have a good understanding of how to do this correctly.
