Possibly the GPS bug was not fixed in Froyo?

I updated my DroidX to Froyo early yesterday morning and my battery life was great all day long. Today however has been another story as my battery drained to 50% after 6 hours of hardly any use.

I remembered the GPS bug from 2.1 that prevented the phone from entering sleep mode, so I checked in Spare Parts and sure enough my phone had been running 100% without entering sleep mode. Enabling GPS to run in the background is really the only thing I've done since upgrading to Froyo because I thought I had read somewhere that the bug had been fixed.

I tried searching but couldn't find anything relating to weather this specific bug had been verified as being fixed or not. Anyone else experiencing the same issue?

The gps bug was fixed in my X with the update....There is a new app tied to your gps. The news and weather app is preset to get news and weather every 3 hours by default using your gps for your current location. I noticed yesterday that it used a lot of battery probabaly because i was inside my office and the gps could not get a connection.

I believe it is fixed, here are the steps I took:

1) Charge phone completely and unplug to reset the battery usage stats
2) Enable GPS and aGPS
3) Open Google Maps to have the GPS get used (note the GPS symbol in the notification bar)
4) Close Google Maps (note the GPS symbol is gone, which happened in 2.1)
5) Wait patiently
6) Check the battery usage stats via Options -> Battery -> Usage
7) Confirm that Phone idle and Cell Standby are in the list!

I turned GPS off and rebooted my phone. After letting it sit for 20 min or so I checked my battery info and my phone is no longer running 100% without sleep. It may have not been the GPS that was preventing sleep mode, but that was the only thing I could think of since it had been a problem before. I guess I'll have to keep an eye on it and maybe I can narrow down the cause if it happens again.

I checked the News & Weather app and it was not set to update in the background so I don't think that was the cause. If it was, then my reboot fixed it.

Saiyaman156, I will try the test you mentioned later tonight when I get a chance.

Thank you for the replies!

Perhaps it was one of those services constantly polling the GPS. I know that if you use fine location in something like Beautiful Widgets, that could drain the battery. I try to use coarse location (cell tower) when possible.
